Fred and Cheryl's Coffee House
It's just a phone call away at:
(916) 455-1719
The world out there is a very cold and impersonal one - one that really doesn't
care much about you as a person - and if you don't have money to mitigate the
world's cruelty, you're in deep trouble. The very real fact of the matter is,
if you have no money - no financial "wherewithal" - you're just a "no account"
person; a number; a "little cog in a giant machine." Money makes the man in
today's world - AND THAT'S ALSO TRUE IN TODAY'S CHURCH.
Indeed, the very real fact of the matter is, today's church has become so utterly
corrupted and so totally depraved that there is no longer much difference between
it and the world. The church has become a place where, like the world, your
importance is measured by the amount of money you possess - and that's the unvarnished
truth of the matter as anyone who knows the "ins and outs" of today's church
can attest. (Please see our article, "Christianity and Capitalism.")
FRED AND CHERYL'S COFFEE HOUSE, however, is a place where your worth will never
be measured by the money you have; it's a place where money doesn't count, and
where you will ALWAYS be welcome - a place where you can ALWAYS
find a friend along with the kind of understanding only a friend can give. It's
a place where you can find someone to listen to you, and a place where - if
you need advise on how to make it through the next day, or even the next hour
- you can find it: Solid, practical, BIBLICALLY-BASED advise for
whatever problems you might be facing.
All you have to do is pick up the phone and give Fred or Cheryl a call - they
are always there, and THEY ARE THE KIND OF PEOPLE YOU WOULD WANT TO VISIT
AND HAVE COFFEE WITH.
Finally, if you don't know the Lord Jesus Christ, but you would like to know
Him, you'll find Him at FRED AND CHERYL'S COFFEE HOUSE. Fred will be
glad to introduce you to Him. Jesus is ALWAYS there, and He wants
to know YOU. Jesus said:
"Behold, I stand at the door (of your heart), and knock: if ANY
man hear my voice, and open the door (of his heart), I will come in to him,
and will sup with him, and he with me." (Rev. 3:20)
Now, listen: that's ANY person - no matter who you are or what
you've done. The Bible goes on to say,
"For God so LOVED the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that WHOSOEVER believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting
life." (John 3:16)
That word - "whosoever" - is such a wonderful word. It includes everyone: even
you and me.

A SHORT WORD ABOUT FRED AND CHERYL
I've known Fred since I was in kindergarten (some fifty-nine years ago), and
I can honestly tell you that I have never known anyone who is more caring, more
gentle, and more loving than Fred. And the same is equally true with regard
to Cheryl, his wife. Moreover, I can tell you that the gentleness and love that
Fred and Cheryl possess is not something they learned in a manual somewhere,
or in a seminary, or by taking a course in "pastoral counseling." It is a gift
that God has endowed them with, and one that has been refined and honed over
some forty years of walking and ministering to others.
Fred and Cheryl have been married almost thirty-five years. They met while
Fred was still a student at the University of California at Davis. After Davis,
Fred pulled a "stint" in the army as a "grunt," and then returned home to Northern
California to teach school. Later, he moved to Philadelphia where he helped
pastor a "Jesus-people's" church, and then on to Washington D.C. where - once
again - he helped pastor a second "Jesus people's" church in that city.
Thousands of young people were flocking to the Lord at the time (i.e., the
late '60s and early '70s). They were fleeing the narcissism of the drug culture
and the empty sexuality of that era. They poured into the church, many from
directly off the streets of Georgetown which was then more a "hippie" hangout
than the yuppie, upscale place it is today. During much of that time, Fred was
nightly in the streets reaching people for the Lord, and bringing them home
to take care of. Then he would get up in the morning and go off to teach school;
in the afternoon he would return home, have dinner, and go back into the streets
to reach more young people for the Lord.
So many young people were coming to the Lord at the time that the church soon
ran out of places to put them all. So Fred reached into his own savings for
the money to start the very first "brothers and sisters" house in the Washington
D.C. area - Chesterbrook House. What Fred and Cheryl started there soon blossomed
into a series of more than sixteen other similar houses scattered all over Washington,
from Georgetown, to Capitol Hill, to George Washington University, to Arlington,
to Chevy Chase - everywhere!
Fred has been a part of Antipas Ministries from the very beginning - in 1978
when Fred and I took a roll of butcher paper, rolled it out on my dining room
table on my farm in Elverta, California, and began drawing a "time line" for
some verses that we had discovered in the Book of Daniel. We haven't stopped
since. Our odyssey has taken us up and down the West Coast, to Denver, and back,
and all over the United States - and now it's taking us all over the world.
But that's another story for another place.
All this to say, Fred and Cheryl have "BEEN THERE, AND DONE THAT" -
what ever "there" and "that" might be.
