Oil fields aflame in the Middle East

Once again it is necessary to pause and remind ourselves what the Tribulation is all about; this is made necessary because there is so much misinformation concerning the word (i.e., tribulation) - misinformation which relates to how most modern-day Christians understand this expression: Hardship, adversity, pain and suffering.

That is, however, not necessarily the meaning the translators of the King James Version of the Bible were trying to convey.

The word "Tribulation" - as it is used by the Bible in relation to the "end of the age" - means "to TEST" or "PUT ON TRIAL." This is evidenced by Revelation 3:10 where Jesus refers to the Tribulation as "the hour of temptation" or "TESTING."

The English word, "tribulation" is derived from the Latin word, Tribulum. The Roman word, Tribune, is also derived from the Latin word Tribulum. A Tribune in ancient Rome was a magistrate or judge appointed to hear civil and criminal proceedings. It is the word from which our modern English word, "Tribunal," is derived - which means a "SEAT OF JUDGMENT."

This is the exact sense that the translators of the King James Version of the Bible were trying to convey when they translated the Greek word, Thlipsis, as "Tribulation" in Revelation 7:14. As with the Latin word, Tribulum, the Greek word, Thlipsis, means to "put to the test." [For a full biblical exposition of Revelation 7:14, please see Part 5 ("An Examination of Pre-Tribulational Proof-Texts"), in Chapter VII ("The Great Escape: Misconceptions Concerning the Rapture"); specifically, the subsection entitled "The Church in Philadelphia").]

Please see below for a synopsis of
the key events of the Tribulation Period

Insofar as the Tribulation relates to the Gog / Magog War, we have now gleaned about as much as we can concerning it from the prophet Ezekiel. This much has been made clear:

  • The Prophet Ezekiel

A group of Radical Islamic nations shall descend on the Promised Land in the "latter days" to destroy Israel.

  • As foretold in Ezekiel 38:4, it will be a massive invasion. Persia [the land that is today occupied by modern Iran] Turkey and many of the nations of Central Asia will join in the attack. Ethiopia and Libya (ancient lands which today bear these same names] and others will evidently coordinate with the northern confederation in an attack from the south.

  • There will be a protest from Sheba, Dedan and the "Merchants of Tarshish" - i.e., America's business elites - that will spur the United States into action against Gog. [Please see our previous article, "The Tribulation: Part 5 - The prophecies of Ezekiel; The Gog / Magog War; & the Merchants of Tarshish."]

But, having said this, little else can be gleaned from Ezekiel concerning the Gog/Magog War except that Gog will be almost totally annihilated. But how will the war unfold? Are there other "players?" How exactly does the AntiChrist become involved? These and other questions are left unanswered by Ezekiel. Instead, Ezekiel passes over these questions, bypassing the rest of the Tribulation Period, and moves directly into a picture of a restored Israel during the Millennium.

The Prophet Daniel

We must take up the rest of the Gog/Magog story (where Ezekiel left off) in Daniel chapter eleven. [Please see Daniel and the Latter Days (Moody Press) by Robert Duncan Culver for an excellent treatment of these and other passages.]

Antiochus Epiphanes

Daniel 11:36-39 begins the prophecy with a description of the Antichrist and compares him with Antiochus Epiphanes [the Greek (by ethnicity) ruler of the ancient Selussian Empire] who desecrated the Temple in Jerusalem in the Second Century B.C. (Daniel 11:21-35). Among other things, he (Antichrist) is described as a man who shall corrupt with flatteries (Daniel 11:32), and a man infatuated with military power and glory. Daniel goes on to say:

"And at the end time [same as "in the latter years" - cf. Daniel 11:40 and Ezekiel 38:8] the king of the South [the leader of the southern confederation, i.e., EGYPT, Libya, etc.] will collide with him [i.e., the Antichrist - please see Daniel and the Latter Days by Robert Culver], and the king of the North [Gog] will storm against him [again, the Antichrist] with chariots, with horsemen, and with many ships; and he [Antichrist] will enter countries, overflow them, and pass through.

Daniel and the Latter Days

"He [i.e., the Antichrist] will also enter the Beautiful Land [i.e., Israel], and many countries will fall; but these will be rescued out of his hand: Edom, Moab and the foremost of the sons of Ammon [i.e., that portion of land east of the river Jordan which sweeps in a large arc (with the Dead Sea as the fulcrum) from about 30 miles northeast of the Dead Sea southward to about 50 miles due south, southeast of the same sea - a barren and desolate wilderness devoid of any significant vegetation. Mt. Nebo is located in this area where it is reputed that Jeremiah hid the "Arc of the Covenant" in order to prevent its capture by the Babylonians - and there are some scholars today (mainly Orthodox Jews) who believe that it is still there (Numbers 35)].

"Then he [i.e., Antichrist] will stretch out his hand against other countries, and the land of EGYPT will not escape.

"But rumors from the East and from the North will disturb him [i.e., Antichrist], and he [Antichrist] will go forth with great wrath to destroy and annihilate many.

"And he [Antichrist] will pitch the tents of his royal pavilion between the seas and the beautiful Holy Mountain ..." (Daniel 11:40-45a)

The first thing to be noticed here that differentiates the prophecies of Daniel from the prophecies of Ezekiel is this:

  • In the prophecies of Ezekiel, the object of attack is Israel.

  • In the prophecies of Daniel, the object of attack are the forces of Antichrist.

In the prophecies of Ezekiel, Israel is attacked from both the north and the south; in the prophecies of Daniel, the Antichrist is also attacked from the north and the south; in other words, both Israel and the forces of antichrist are described as being caught in the middle of a giant pincer movement, AND IT DOESN'T TAKE MUCH "COMMON SENSE" TO INFER FROM THIS THAT ISRAEL AND THE ANTICHRIST ARE IN LEAGUE WITH ONE ANOTHER.

The Prophet Isaiah

And so now we come to the prophecies of Isaiah; specifically, Isaiah 28:14-15, 18:

"Wherefore, hear the word of the Lord, ye ... men that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.

"Because ye have said, We have made a COVENANT WITH DEATH, AND WITH HELL (Prophetic Babylon - i.e., America) are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us ...

"(But) ... your COVENANT WITH DEATH (i.e., America) shall be disannulled, and your AGREEMENT WITH HELL (i.e., America) shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge (Antichrist) shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it." (Isaiah 28:14-15, 18)

Your covenant with death and your agreement with hell

Why does the Bible use such strong language with regard to this covenant? - Because it is an abomination to God for His people to trust in anything but the hand of God! It is a fearful thing for the people of God [be that people Israel or the church] to trust in gentile world power. God calls it "harlotry!" Concerning this pact, J. Dwight Pentecost writes:

"According to Daniel 9:26-27 ... [Babylon (i.e., the United States)] will make a covenant with Israel for a seven year period. This covenant evidently ... guarantees Israel's integrity [i.e., is a defense pact] ... [and] also is a Satanic imitation of the fulfillment of the Abrahamic covenant which ... [guaranteed] Israel title deed to the land. This action is pictured by John [in the Apocalypse] (Rev. 16:2) as a rider going forth to conquer [as the first horseman in the Apocalypse] ... This condition exists for three and one-half years, after which the covenant is broken by the ... [Antichrist]."

It is in connection with this treaty (defense pact) that Ezekiel 38:10-11 begin to make sense:

"Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: It shall come to pass in that day, that things shall come into thy mind [meaning Gog's mind], and thou shalt devise an evil device:

"and thou shalt say, I WILL GO UP TO THE LAND OF UNWALLED VILLAGES; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell securely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates ... (Ezekiel 38:10-11)

In the ancient world, cities were walled to DEFEND themselves from invaders; walls were their means of defense; of course, walls would do little to defend a city today. No defensive wall could withstand an attack from an enemy (and we are not talking here of walls to defend against suicide bombers, etc., but walls that can withstand the attack of an invading army using modern artillery and bombs). The walls would be quickly demolished.

What the prophet is talking about is a people (i.e., the Israelis) dwelling WITH A SENSE OF SECURITY. Something has given the inhabitants of Israel a feeling of supreme security. And what could that possible be? Very obviously, it is the defense pact that it (i.e., Israel) has made with the United States - the very covenant that Dwight Pentecost calls "... a Satanic imitation of the fulfillment of the Abrahamic covenant which ... [guaranteed] Israel title deed to the land."

Sir Robert Anderson elaborates on the prophetic circumstances surrounding this treaty and its connection to the Tribulation Period:

"... the Seventieth Week [i.e., the seven years of the Tribulation Period] will be a definite period of time, of which the beginning, the middle, and the end are definitely marked [by certain well defined events (meaning {1} the Treaty Antichrist makes with Israel, {2} the Abomination of Desolation, and {3} Armageddon)]. [Just as the beginning of the first sixty-nine weeks were signified] ... not by the return of the Jews from Babylon, nor yet by the rebuilding of their Temple, but by the SIGNING OF THE PERSIAN DECREE [TREATY] which restored ... [them], so also the beginning of the Seventieth Week will date not from their restoration to Judea [May 14, 1948], nor yet from the future rebuilding of their shrine, but from the SIGNING OF THE [DEFENSE] TREATY BY THE COMING PRINCE [ANTICHRIST]."

We URGE you to see Appendix 1, "An Explanation of the Seventy Weeks of Daniel," at the end of this article for a more detailed explanation of the Treaty with Death and Hell, as well as an explanation regarding the derivation of the term "Seventy Weeks."

As described in the Book of Daniel, the Gog/Magog War will be initiated by a "push" from the King of the South (i.e., the leader of the southern confederation, probably the leader of EGYPT) against the Antichrist, whose forces are located somewhere in the Middle East (which we now know to be Iraq - that is to say, the land of ancient Babylon). Shortly thereafter, the King of the North [Gog] - leading the combined forces of TURKEY, Iran, etc - will launch his attack, and between them, the King of the North and the King of the South will attempt to trap the forces of Antichrist in a giant pincer movement.

The attack of the King of the North [Gog] has been referred to in Ezekiel 38 and 39. Now new detail is given: Ezekiel 38 and 39 had mentioned the fact that Ethiopia and Libya would join Gog in this attack; now a third nation is added - EGYPT (Daniel 11:42).

Taking the information we can glean from the Books of Daniel and Isaiah, and combining it with the information we have obtained from the Book of Ezekiel, we have now -

  • An outline of how the war will unfold.

  • An idea of where U.S. forces will be situated just prior to the beginning of the war, specifically in the environs of ancient Babylon and close to Israel.

  • A final list of the MAIN "players" in the war: Israel, the United States, Turkey, Iran, and Egypt.

  • The consequences of the war: The occupation of the land of Israel by American forces, and the annihilation of most of the people of the Middle East.

Now, stop for a moment and consider the EXACT nature of these prophecies; their precision is breathtaking: And I speak here specifically of the location of Babylon's (i.e., America's) military forces: THE LAND OF ANCIENT BABYLON, which is to say, Iraq.

The possibility of America's military forces being positioned in the Middle East - and most especially in the land of Ancient Babylon - would have been considered unthinkable a few years ago. Nonetheless, there they are: In the land of ancient Babylon - positioned in the PRECISE location the prophecies of Daniel placed them app. 2,500 years ago.

Locations of American "super-bases" in Iraq - red stars on map to the right

NOTE: It should be noted here that President Obama's plans for pulling troops out of Iraq are not what they might at first seem to be; the New York Times reports that Obama's planned troop drawdown beginning in 2010 would leave in place as many as 50,000 of the current 142,000 troops now in Iraq, including some combat units reassigned as "Advisory Training Brigades" or "Advisory Assistance Brigades." This number does not include the thousands and thousands of "mercenary" forces the U.S. has positioned in Iraq. [More about this in upcoming articles.]

Specifically, the report says:

"Just one day after reports came out regarding the Obama Administration's ... withdrawal plan from Iraq, the Pentagon was detailing the enormous number of troops that would remain on the ground after Obama ostensibly fulfils his promise to remove all combat troops ... After the 'pullout', as many as 50,000 troops will remain on the ground, and despite being touted as a withdrawal of combat troops, Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell conceded that some would continue to "conduct combat operations," and Iraq would still be considered a war zone. The rest would be what he described as 'enablers'."

The Times goes on to report:

"The contradiction between President Obama's speech at Camp Lejeune [where he first announced his plan to withdraw troops from Iraq] and his rhetoric before he was elected should serve as a warning to those who take his words at face value. But more important, combined with his plan to escalate the war in Afghanistan, Obama's adoption of key lies from Bush's Iraq narrative should be seen as a dangerous indicator of things to come."

Chris Floyd of the U.K. expands on the "obvious:"

"It would be superfluous for us to point out that a plan to 'end' a war which includes the continued garrisoning of up to 50,000 troops in a hostile land is, in reality, a continuation of that war, not its cessation."

Facilities at "Camp Anaconda," one of four U.S. super-bases in Iraq: upper left: logistics center; lower left: facilities for drone (hunter-killer) aircraft; right: permanent on post buildings.

Commenting on the PERMANENT nature of these super-bases, Seymour Hirsch writes:

"Sometimes, when trying to cut through a veritable fog of misinformation and disinformation, it helps to focus on something concrete. In the case of Iraq, nothing could be more concrete -- though less generally discussed in our media -- than the set of enormous bases the Pentagon has long been building in that country. Quite literally multibillions of dollars have gone into them. In a prestigious engineering magazine, Lt. Col. David Holt, the Army engineer 'tasked with facilities development' in Iraq, was already speaking proudly of billions of dollars being sunk into base construction ('the numbers are staggering'). In a country in such startling disarray, THESE BASES, WITH SOME OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE AND ADVANCED COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS ON THE PLANET, ARE LIKE VAST SPACESHIPS THAT HAVE LANDED FROM ANOTHER SOLAR SYSTEM ...

Air bases at U.S. super-bases in Iraq; no other nation on earth could position itself in such a way in the Middle East.

"There are at least four 'super-bases' in Iraq, none of which have anything to do with "withdrawal" from that country. Quite the contrary, these bases are being constructed as little American islands of eternal order in an anarchic sea. Whatever top administration officials and military commanders say -- and they always deny that we seek 'permanent' bases in Iraq -- facts on the ground speak with another voice entirely. These bases practically scream 'permanency.'"

Fred Kaplan, writing in the Middle East Times, reports:

"These super-bases are fortified chunks of Middle America, surreally plunked down in the desert, replete with Burger Kings, Pizza Huts, Internet cafes, first-run movie theaters, gyms and swimming pools ... Camp Anaconda, for example, is built around two 3,350-meter (11,000-foot) runways, covers 40 square kilometers (15 square miles), and is a home and workplace to 20,000 US troops and 2,500 contractors. Camp Cooke, which contains 2,700 square meters of retail shopping, is so big that a shuttle bus runs back and forth from one end to the other. There's nothing provisional about these places ... They're often referred to as 'enduring bases', and there are plans to keep them operating in American hands ... forever."

We have conjectured - and that is precisely what we have done, conjectured - that an Israeli air-strike against Iran could very well be the catalyst that will "change things on the ground" insofar as RADICALIZING the populations of the Middle East, and specifically we are thinking of Turkey and Egypt. The catalyst could, of course, be any number of other events; BUT, that some such event will occur that will RADICALIZE these populations, there can be no doubt - the prophecies of Ezekiel, Daniel and Isaiah make that perfectly clear. [Please see our article, "The Tribulation: Part 3 - A Catalyst for War in the Middle East; an Israeli Air-Strike against Iran."]

Moreover, one should take note of the fact that BOTH SIDES WILL BE RADICALIZED (and we are speaking not only of the Islamic side to this struggle, but the Israeli and American side as well); and that's because - in the end - only the radicalized elements of each camp are prepared to endure the horrors of the clash that lie ahead; only they possess the esprit de corps (as it were) and the kind of intellectual (really, religious) rigor necessary for such a contest. Thus, as the maneuvering continues, both sides will be progressively driven back to the ancient springs from which their cultures first drew breath; in the case of America, Christianity; and in the case of the Muslim people of the Middle East, Islam. There is no room on this battlefield for the "faint of heart," which in this case means the religious "moderates" on both sides. [Please see our articles, "What Is Fascism" and "Transitioning from Christianity to Fascism."]

It is precisely here - in the conflict between Islam and Christianity - that Matthew 24:6-7 becomes so prescient:

" And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that ye be not troubled: for these things must needs come to pass; but the end is not yet.

"For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom ..." (Matthew 24:6-7)

What the Bible is talking about here is CIVILIZATION CONFLICT, or - as Samuel P. Huntington, Eaton Professor of the Science of Government and Director of the John M. Olin Institute for Strategic Studies at Harvard University - calls it, RELIGIOUS OR CULTURAL CONFLICT.

[Unable to embed video, please click here to watch video on Pat Robertson.]

NOTE: In connection with Matthew 24:6-7 (above), it should be noted that the Greek language has two words for war: mache and polemos. The meanings for the two words are similar, but their scope is vastly different. The word mache means a battle or war of limited duration, while the word polemos means war on a much broader and bloodier scale. The word that is used here is polemos. Obviously, then, what the Scriptures have in mind here is a period of intense, bloody warfare carried on over an extended length of time.

Then the Bible describes the kind of warfare it has in mind - "nation shall rise against nation." We can begin to appreciate what is meant here by discovering what the Bible means by "nation" - it's not necessarily what we, as Americans, mean. The word that the Bible uses for "nation" is the Greek word ethnos - which is the root word from which the English language derives the word "ethnic," which in its broadest sense means "civilization." In other words, what the Bible has in mind here is CIVILIZATION or CULTURAL conflict - the exact kind of conflict that is today ripping apart the United States, and that is pitting Muslims against Christians.

Whether mainline (elite) academicians want to admit it or not - and as we indicated some years ago in our article, "POLITICAL CHRISTIANITY" - the fact of the matter is, society organizes itself around culture. Culture sets the parameters of a society - any society. It determines what is "right" and what is "wrong." It provides the underlying assumptions upon which a society is based. But what a culture determines to be "right" or "wrong" must be anchored by something. For example, who is to say whether abortion is "right" or "wrong?" or whether homosexuality is acceptable behavior? or whether divorce should be condoned or not? or whether the society should be organized as a patriarchy? or maybe as a matriarchy? [Please see our article, "Political Christianity."]

One may assert that he "feels" homosexuality is wrong; that abortion is murder; and that men should be the head of the family. But that's not enough. Others may "feel" the exact opposite. And an appeal to philosophy to end the argument is more often than not futile. Philosophical or ethical speculation in the absence of some kind of an anchor has normally proven useless for such purposes. Indeed, all it seems to accomplish is to further erode "fixity" and stability, the essential ingredients of the bonds of social existence. In the absence of an acceptable anchor, philosophical and ethical speculation exists in a state of PERPETUAL AGITATION. Should the agitation continue unchecked, it may lead to the ultimate contempt of all authority.

Contempt for cultural norms.

Not only that, but an appeal to the "will of the majority" is often insufficient to end the controversy over "cultural values." The fact of the matter is, the "will of the majority" can be a very fickle thing, and it is difficult to base a society on that kind of capriciousness. Indeed, history is full of situations where an appeal to the "will of the majority" has not sufficed to establish cultural parameters. It didn't suffice a century ago in this country with regard to the question of slavery - where, contrary to popular belief, a majority of people, both north and south, saw the question of slavery not worth fighting over. Neither did it suffice to quell the controversy over "prohibition." And it does not seem to suffice today over the question of abortion. In all these instances, the turmoil was (is) kept boiling by a small minority driven largely by a religious absolutism which was (is) obsessed with its own righteousness.

Religious absolutism has, over the long run, a dogged and persistent way of carrying the day against odds that would cause the collapse of less solidly based ideas. Too often, academicians have shoved religion aside, deeming it not fit for serious study. But what they have perhaps failed to recognize is the central - indeed, pivotal - role that religion plays in setting up a culture's parameters, of fixing its boundaries. In the end, one finds more often than not that it is religion upon which the cultural norms of a society are ultimately based. The fact is, culture and religion are more tightly woven together than most secular elites care to admit, and so much so that it is often difficult to discern where the one begins and the other ends - and this is perhaps why it is so easy to forget the vital role religion plays in society, even today - until, that is, the culture which it helped establish is challenged!! - as it was, for instance, in Iran.

The Islamic Revolution began in Iran, AND THE AMERICAN OIL ELITES BEAR PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY FOR PROVOKING IT! By creating a small elite in Iran (about 20 percent of that country's population) and enriching it beyond the imagining of most average Iranians; and then, as if to add insult to injury, "Westernizing" this new Iranian elite, the oil companies were perceived by common Iranians everywhere to be introducing "CULTURAL NORMS" concerning such things as the place of women in society, the place of the family, open policies about sex, education, clothing, etc. which seemed to challenge their way of life. IT IS EXACTLY HERE THAT THE OIL COMPANIES UNCORKED A GENIE THAT THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO PUT BACK INTO THE BOTTLE! THE MULLAHS HAD NOW ENTERED THE FRAY AND RELIGION WAS IRREVOCABLY INTRODUCED INTO THE EQUATION.

The Islamic Revolution began as a revolt against the secularization of society, and in this way, it mirrors what is happening in the United States

Thus it was that ISLAMIC FUNDAMENTALISM SURFACED IN IRAN AS A COUNTERWEIGHT TO THE INFLUENCE OF WHAT WAS PERCEIVED TO BE A FOREIGN CULTURE. It wasn't so much that the Iranian people were any more religious than their peers had been some twenty years earlier, a time when the mosques of Iran were rarely full, as it was that the "people" had returned to the foundation of their culture - their religion, their mosques - in defense of that culture.

So long as the culture was not threatened, the mosques could remain relatively empty, the religious trappings left to decay; but once the "people" perceived that their culture was in danger of collapse because of the impress of a foreign one, then the people returned to the mosque, and Islam resurfaced with a vengeance. The Islamic Revolution in Iran didn't happen over night. It was a process that took some twenty years; but the force of that process became inexorable as the "American System" (i.e., "Westernization") pressed itself ever more onto the middle and upper middle class.

Prof. Nikki Keddi

And just how blind the secular elites are regarding this phenomenon can be easily demonstrated in the case of Iran. Take, for example, an article that appeared in the scholarly, oil company-sponsored International Journal for Middle East Studies which appeared in January of 1971. Speaking on what then appeared to be the transformation of Iran into a modern, secular society, Prof. Nikki R. Keddie, one of the most distinguished scholars and observers of Iranian society of that era, wrote:

"... one may also surmise that the leadership position of the ulama (the Mullahs) has been eroded (as the result of the continuing economic modernization of Iran). The position of the ulama (Mullah) seems bound to continue in general decline as literacy, secular schools, and scientific education spread; as Islamic practices regarding the relations of the sexes and other matters are increasingly ignored; and insofar as some of the ulama can be identified with a self-seeking opposition to reform." [Keddi is a Professor Emeritus of history at the University of California, Los Angeles.]

And all this GIBBERISH just five short years prior to the Islamic Revolution in Iran, arguably the most powerful religious transformation that any modern nation has ever suffered through. The signs were there for Keddie to see; she was simply predisposed to ignore them. Such a predisposition of mind on the part of Keddie defies adequate explanation; but it is, unfortunately, a "mindset" which she shares with most other members of academia.

Sarah Palin

Paul Hockenos of the University of Berlin describes the kind of RELIGIOUS conflict that is at the heart of today's clash between Islam and Christianity as a "populist phenomenon" rather than an elite phenomenon. It is a "grassroots" affair that is driven from the bottom up, not from the top down; invariably it leads to RELIGIOUS (CULTURAL) MOBILIZATION - and the kind of disrespect that the secular elites manifest toward this grass-roots phenomenon only fuels the movement that much more - as the disrespect of the secular elites in the United States toward Sarah Palin so clearly demonstrates.

Action-Reaction Spiral - winding itself tighter and tighter until it finally snaps

As the religious (cultural) mobilization continues its deadly process, even those who had at first put little value in their religious (cultural) identity are pressed toward religious (cultural) mobilization. The opportunity of choosing between a "moderate" (multicultural) identity and an ethnic or religious identity slowly disappears as the rhetoric becomes ever more heated - forcing more and more individuals in each ethnic or religious group to adopt ethnic or religious identities. THIS IS PRECISELY WHAT IS OCCURRING IN THE UNITED STATES AS THE SO-CALLED WAR BETWEEN ISLAM AND CHRISTIANITY HEATS UP.

More importantly, ethnic (or religious) identity is often imposed by the opposing group, specifically by its most radical elements. This is what happened in the former Yugoslavia; for example, take what happened to one "moderate" (multicultural) Bosnian Muslim school teacher as the "action-reaction spiral" of ethnic (religious) conflict began to take hold there. She laments:

"We never, until war, thought of ourselves as Muslims. We were Yugoslavs (i.e., multiculturalists). But when we began to be murdered, because we are Muslims, things changed. The definition of who we are today has been determined by our killers."

True, Christians have lost their old champion (i.e., President Bush) - but a new and far more powerful champion is on his way.

NOTE: In this connection it should be remembered that "Radicalization" is a "start and stop" process. It does not run continually in a straight line or at the same speed. It's a tug of war between "moderate" and "extremist" elements, with the "extremists" in control of the dynamic. Take what happened several years ago to Robert Dornan in California's 46th Congressional District. Dornan was a fire-breathing, hard-right ideologue whose rival was Loretta Sanchez, a left-leaning Democrat with strong roots in the Hispanic community. Dornan, who once referred to feminists as "lesbian spear chuckers" and revealed a fellow Republican's homosexuality on the House floor, had challenged Sanchez as a "stalking horse" for Mexico's takeover of Southern California - and in doing so had forced issues into "play" that moderate Republicans would have liked to see ignored. These kinds of issues lose elections - at least in the "short run."

Robert Dornan and Loretta Sanchez

As a result, most Republican Party "moderates" wanted Dornan to bow out of the Republican Party primary. The Lincoln Club, one of Southern California's most exclusive "moneyed interest" clubs asked Dornan to do so - as did virtually all the other "moderates" in Orange County where the 46th Congressional District is located. They believed that Dornan would win the primary - because primaries are dominated by party ideologues - but lose the election to Sanches in November. But radicals like Dornan don't care about the "short run." What they care about is the "long run," and they are prepared to lose elections as a result if in losing the election, the radicalization process is pushed forward.

Dornan stayed in and lost the election to Sanchez. However, in winning the election she has become beholden to radical Hispanic elements in her party - the kind that wave Mexican flags in downtown San Diego and Los Angeles. These elements have forced her to take unpopular "Hispanic issue stands" in order to placate her constituencies. Needless to say, this has radicalized heretofore "moderate" (Anglo) elements in the Republican Party which had not been previously disposed to Dornan's rhetoric. And so the process goes, ultimately pushing the so-called "moderates" in both parties out and radicalizing those who remain. It's the same "action-reaction spiral" that took hold in the former Yugoslavia. It's irresistible, and "moderates" are helpless to stop it once it gets started.

It is precisely this "action-reaction spiral" that has taken hold of that dear Christian who wrote me the following letter several weeks ago:

"Dear Antipas:

"Please back up your accusations with the whole truth will you?

"Unbelievable. You say that white Christians were racist towards blacks in this country. How do you explain then - that the vast majority those who fought against slavery in the first place where white Christian abolitionists. White soldiers by the millions fought against the South and against slavery - many of them giving their lives in that fight. How can you possibly give your life for something you hate?

"Christian America opened the doors to millions of European Jews from two hundred years ago to the present. They can here were given the liberty and the freedom to develop prosper and rise to unbelievable levels of power and prestige. How have ever suffered? Give me a break. They own the media - more or less - run the present government - run the Federal Reserve etc. etc.

"So - if Christians discriminated against Jews - like you say they did - they sure didn't do a very good job of it did they? Is it the Christians who harass persecute and try to get rid of Jewish holiday programs - Bible Reading Jewish symbols - Jewish menorahs etc. etc.? Give me a break. It's the Jews who persecute America's Christians and try to eliminate all signs of Christian faith in the public square. Any honest Jew will tell you that he was raised to look down on Gentiles and especially Christ and Christians, regardless of what they are like in real life. If that isn't racism - than what is?

"My husband has been cheated used manipulated by several Jews he has worked for. The attitude was the same - I'm better than you are - you're a Gentile. They weren't in the least friendly loving, compassionate - forgiving or humble. So don't give me this thing about Christian racism. It's bullshit.

"Unlike this country - racism has been part and parcel of life in Mexico since the very beginning of its history. If you were of certain mixed blood you were automatically shut out of political social and academic life. That has been true even to some extent - up to the present day.

"Hispanic men are by and large - chauvinistic and treat Anglo women with control and contempt. I've seen it and experienced it over and over. Living here in San Diego. The entitlement attitude of so many Hispanics and the almost complete lack of gratitude for what this country offers them (even when they break the law by coming here illegally) is amazing. A huge percentage of them in California and elsewhere pay no State or Federal income tax - yet receive tax payer after taxpayer supported benefits for free.

"American Anglos - not only do not receive these benefits - they pay for them! And you have the nerve to complain about Anglo racism - Give me a break. We are totally used and abused.

"As far as Jews go - do you know in Israel housing allotments are based strictly on race. First bids go to the European Jews; then the Sephardic Jews; then the Christians; and then the Arabs. Jews pride themselves on being "better" than the Goyim. They are taught that from day one - and it shows in their attitude. Its written in the Talmud. "I thank God that He did not make me a Gentile." So Please - don't lecture us about racism.

"They attack our Nativity scenes - our Christmas programs our Crosses our prayers - our Bible classes and on and on and on without any provocation on the part of the Christians - who just want to live in peace and harmony with others - as taught by our Savior Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "Love you enemies and love one another." His whole ministry was one of service to others humility and showing love. Christians in this country have lived this way for generations. They've done nothing to deserve it - but the Jews hate them anyway.

"I've never seen any hatred like the hatred and intolerance certain Jews have shown the Christians in my neighborhood, state and country.

"P.S. I doubt if anyone on your staff lives anywhere near a large Latino community or has to deal with drugs gangs - ugly graffiti chauvinistic racist attitudes crime - on a daily basis. Do any of you?

"I challenge you to come live on the border for a few months and then how much you 'love' Mexicans and Mexican culture.

"But you liberals never will. You typically live in communities and attend schools far remove from any of the people you think are so wonderful.

"Until you do - until you come and live with them - I wouldn't believe any of your naive ramblings about how horrible the Anglos are for not wanting to shell out billions of dollars (11 billion just in California) to pay to be treated with absolute contempt by people who cheated their way in here in the first place.

"My husband's truck was stolen by Mexican gang members. My mother in law's credit card was ripped off by a Mexican clerk. My neighbors son and my friends wife were killed by drunk Mexican illegals. My neighbors cars were broken into and one stolen also by Mexican gang members. And most of them use the same horrible excuse that you had the nerve to give - which is that everything the white man has belongs to them in the first place.

"So please, please, please don't lecture us about racism or intolerance or how 'wonderful' the Mexican invasion of our country is. Mexico is full of corruption - drugs and drug dealing and lying politicians. The people are oppressed and that's why so many of them come up here and break the laws with impunity. White Protestant Christians are a much better class of people - and anyone who lives in areas with numerous Hispanics know it.

A new crusade against Islam - and not only Islam, but all those who fall outside of America's Euro-centered "Christian" culture, which would, of course, include the Hispanic community (see letter above).

It is exactly this action-reaction spiral that has taken hold of this dear sister (see above) that is now radicalizing both the Islamic and Christian worlds - and believe me when I say, it's irresistible, and "moderates" are helpless to stop it once it gets started.

It is now only a matter of time before Turkey and Egypt are overwhelmed by this process - AND THERE CAN BE LITTLE DOUBT THAT AN ISRAELI AIR-STRIKE AGAINST IRAN WOULD COMPLETE THE RADICALIZATION OF BOTH COUNTRIES.

The Muslim Brotherhood

Concerning how far this process has developed in Egypt, Thomas R. Goedkoop, writing in the National War College Journal, reports:

"Egypt has held a unique position in world affairs during the past 30 years. Throughout several Arab-Israeli wars, the Camp David accords, the Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty of 1979, and most recently supporting the Allied coalition during the Gulf War, Egypt has been the focus of U.S. efforts towards moderate Arab states in the Middle East. It has been the bedrock upon which U.S. influence of the Arab states in the region has been based, and vital to stability within this critical region. A NEW CRISIS LOOMS FOR PRESIDENT HOSNI MUBARAK: THE THREAT OF RADICAL ISLAMISTS WHO THREATEN THE LEGITIMACY OF HIS REGIME. This challenge can have potentially devastating effects on the Middle East as a whole, and certainly on U.S. objectives in this area. The United States cannot allow a potentially hostile radical fundamentalist regime to assume power in Egypt."

What's occurring in Egypt is that its "moderate" underpinnings are rotting away under the impress of Islamic Radicalism. The organization taking the lead in this process is the Muslim Brotherhood - a radical Islamic group that was banned for many years; the ban has since been lifted and the organization has as a result been making an astounding comeback, capturing over 37 percent of the Egyptian vote in recent elections, which by all accounts were rigged in favor of the current government.

Indeed, it's not too much to say that without the police-state apparatus of the Egyptian state, the present secular government of Hosni Mubarik would have fallen a long time ago to the forces of Islamic Fundamentalism. The fact is, the pathology of rot that has taken hold on the Mubarik government resembles nothing so much as the rot that took hold on the Shah's government in Iran shortly before its fall in 1978.

Col. Jonathon D. Halevi writes on the Muslim Brotherhood:

"The Muslim Brotherhood has been widely regarded in the Arab world as the incubator of the jihadist ideology that led to the rise of radical Islamic militant organizations. A former Kuwaiti Minister of Education, Dr. Ahmad Al-Rab'i, argued in Al-Sharq al-Awsat that the founders of most modern terrorist groups in the Middle East emerged from "the mantle" of the Muslim Brotherhood. A recently disclosed British Foreign Office memo from January 17, 2006, which was leaked to The New Statesman admitted that 'The Egyptian Government perceives the Muslim Brotherhood to be the political face of a terrorist organization'.

"Tariq Hasan, a columnist for the Egyptian government daily Al-Ahram, has alerted his readers THAT THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD IS PREPARING A VIOLENT TAKEOVER IN EGYPT, using its 'masked militias' in order to replicate the Hamas seizure of power in the Gaza Strip."

NOTE: Members of the Islamic Brotherhood (Egypt) were involved in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center. The bomb left 6 people dead and 1,000 injured. The men carrying out the attack were followers of Umar Abd al-Rahman, an Egyptian cleric and a member of the Islamic Brotherhood (Egypt) who preached in the New York City area.

A large crowd of demonstrators, estimated by police to be 50,000, take to the streets calling on the Egyptian government to open its border with Gaza and allow people in to fight the Israelis, in Alexandria, Egypt Friday, Jan. 9, 2009. Israel's offensive in Gaza has sparked widespread anger across the Middle East, and Egypt, which shares a border with Gaza, has come under criticism for only allowing limited openings of its border - a move seen by many as abetting Israel's siege of Gaza's 1.4 mil

As the above video demonstrates, the Obama Administration thinks it can work with the Muslim Brotherhood, and has even funneled money to it; but in the end it is making a big mistake, as the following very sophisticated video by the Brotherhood aimed SPECIFICALLY at an American audience entitled the "The Arab Muslim Brotherhood Project:"

The Arab Muslim Brotherhood Project

Giscard d'Estaing

In Turkey, the same rot is extant as in Egypt. All that's needed to push the "moderates" out in Turkey is the rejection of their bid for E.U. membership - a bid that looks increasingly shaky. For example, Valery Giscard d'Estaing of France recently asserted in an interview with Le Monde that Turkey has no business in the E.U. It's not a "Western" country at all. He continued:

"Turkey's capital is not in Europe, and 95 percent of its population is outside Europe. It has a different culture, a different approach, and a different way of life ... E.U. membership for Turkey would mean the end of Europe."

And Giscard d'Estaing is not alone in his sentiments. His comments have been echoed by West Germany's former chancellor, who publicly voiced fears that the admission of Turkey -

"... would open the door for similarly plausible full membership of other MUSLIM nations in Africa and the Middle East. That could result in the political union degenerating into nothing more than a free trade community [without a common culture]."

Helmut Schmidt

While the secular elites in Europe continue to press for Turkey's membership in the E.U., most of the differing populations of the E.U. member states are opposed to Turkey's membership for cultural and, yes, even religious reasons. The current population of Turkey is about 70 million; by contrast, Germany is the largest E.U. state with about 83 million residents, but it is shrinking by about 82,000 a year while Turkey's population is exploding. That means that in a few years, Turkey would be the largest state - both in terms of geography and sheer numbers - in the E.U. What that could mean is that Europe could be flooded with Muslim immigrants who would be accorded unrestricted immigration rights under the E.U. Charter. That's something that sends shivers down the spines of most Europeans.

Should Turkey's bid for membership in the E.U. continue to stall, however, Turkey could irrevocably turn away from "moderation" and embrace Islamic Radicalism. Indeed, the current government of Turkey is made up in part from previously banned Islamic parties. The leader of this coalition, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has warned that if things continue as they are, the Turks will look at the E.U. as "nothing more than a Christian Club" which is closed to Islamic participation. AND THE FACT IS, THERE IS ALREADY A GROWING SENTIMENT IN TURKEY AGAINST BECOMING A "PARIAH" MEMBER OF THE E.U. WHEN IT COULD INSTEAD BECOME THE LEADING MEMBER IN A COALITION OF ISLAMIC STATES THAT WOULD STRETCH FROM MOROCCO TO THE PHILIPPINES - and all this to say nothing of what an Israeli air-strike against Iran would do in accelerating the process of the radicalization in Turkey.

NOTE: Ely Karmon writes in MERIA (the Middle East Review of International Affairs):

"Radical Islamic terrorist organizations active in Turkey ... are striving to establish an Islamic Sharia'-based state on the Iranian example."

The growing radicalism of the Turkish population.

In this respect it is important to understand that there are no less than ten Islamic organizations active in Turkey: Turkish Islamic Liberation Army (IKO), Turkish Islamic Liberation Front (TIK-C), Fighters of the Islamic Revolution (IDAM), Turkish Islamic Liberation Union (TIKB), World Sharia Liberation Army (DSKO), Universal Brotherhood Front-Sharia Revenge Squad (EKC-SIM), Islamic Liberation Party Front (IKP-C), Turkish Fighters of the Universal Islamic War of Liberation (EIK-TM), Turkish Islamic Fighters Army (IMO) and Turkish Sharia Revenge Commandos (TSIK).

In the early 1990s the Islamic Movement in Turkey essentially embraced a transnational Islamic movement based substantively on the Iranian model. In addition, the movement was heavily influenced by the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood. The movement initially took hold in southeast Turkey, where Islamic radicalism emerged in poor towns and villages with a large Kurdish population (Dyarbakir, Silvan, Cizre, Kiziltepe and others), especially among the young and unemployed. They followed the teachings of local Muslim scholars or sheiks and often organized themselves around extremist Islamic publications such as Tevhid, Yeryuzu and Objektif. Their activity was greatly influenced by Khomeini`s teachings; they were often identified by the local police as Hezbollah fighters.

A report prepared by the Turkish security authorities for the National Security Council at the beginning of 1997 outlined the objectives of the radical religious movements and stressed that their strategy consists of three stages.

  • The first stage is the message (teblig), and calls for an effort by the radicals to persuade the people to adopt the Islamic religion, establish an Islamic state and administration, live in accordance with Islamic rules and struggle to safeguard the Islamic way of life.
  • The second stage is the community (cemaat) and calls for restructuring of communities in accordance with the requirements of the first stage.
  • The third stage is the struggle (jihad) and calls for the armed struggle to safeguard the Islamic way of life.

In June 1996, the RP [the Islamic fundamentalist Welfare Party (Refah Partisi)] achieved power in an alliance with the center-right True Path party (DYP) and established the first Islamic government in 73 years of secular Kemalist regimes, with Necmettin Erbakanas as prime minister.

The attitude of the Refah party's leadership regarding the use of Islamic violence and terror insofar as the elimination of its opposition in Turkey is an on-going concern of U.S. policy-makers. on the radical fringes of the Islamic movement - and this "concern" has only been heightened when the Refah hosted representatives of Palestinian Hamas, Egypt's Muslim Brothers and Algeria's FIS at the RP's political convention last year. Moreover, America's anxiety was not tempered when a Turkish minister of interior declared at a press conference recently that members of Refah's "military arm" had undergone months of military and theoretical training in Iranian security installations, traveled with Iranian real and forged documents, had weapons and explosives of Iranian origin and participated in attacks on Turkish citizens and also Iranian opposition militants.

The very real fact of the matter is, however, most of the nations of the Middle East and Central Asia will follow Turkey and Egypt into the caldron of Islamic fanaticism - so that the U.S. and Israel will face a unified Islamic Caliphate that stretches from Central Asia to North Africa - with the single exception of Iraq, where the U.S. will undoubtedly reinforce its military position there.

The United Islamic Caliphate

NOTE: Whether the U.S. will be able to hold on to Afghanistan depends upon whether or not Pakistan is submerged in the radicalization process. Insofar as Saudi Arabia and the so-called Gulf Sates are concerned, the populations of these countries are so tiny relative to their land mass, that it is entirely possible that the U.S. will be able to hold on there - but only if it chooses to use BRUTAL military force, the kind that the secular elites who now govern the U.S. are dispositionally unable to wield.

AND SO NOW IT BEGINS: A MURDEROUS WAR AIMED AT DEPOPULATING THE MIDDLE EAST. And that won't be the end of it: We remind you of the words of the Prophet:

"But rumors from the East and from the North will disturb him [i.e., Antichrist], and he [Antichrist] will go forth with great wrath to destroy and annihilate many.

"And he [Antichrist] will pitch the tents of his royal pavilion between the seas and the beautiful Holy Mountain ..." (Daniel 11:40-45a)

[Please pay careful attention to
the EXACTNESS of the prophesy.]

The vision of the Seventy Weeks is contained in the Book of Daniel, chapter nine. Daniel had a vision of Seventy Weeks that was determined on his people to finish their transgressions, make an end of their sins and bring in everlasting righteousness.

The expression, Seventy Weeks, should really be read seventy sevens. Whether these sevens are days, weeks, or years is to be determined by the context in which they are used. The period of the Seventy Weeks is essentially divided into two parts by the prophet: the first sixty-nine weeks [or sevens (which itself is also divided into two parts - from the decree of the king to the restoration of Jerusalem (seven weeks); and from the restoration (verse 25b-27a) to Messiah, (sixty-two weeks)] and then the final Seventieth Week.

The vision of the Seventy Weeks essentially outlines this course of events, defining the date when, in the providence of God, Israel was to be set aside temporarily while God began His good work with the Church, and fixing the one event which would bring to a close God's labor with the Church and the time wherein God would, like some great master-craftsman, finish His work, put down His tools, and - for the first time - raise them BOTH up together.

The vision of the Seventy Weeks is contained in the Book of Daniel, chapter nine. Daniel had a vision of Seventy Weeks that was determined on his people to finish their transgressions, make an end of their sins and bring in everlasting righteousness.

Daniel had been studying the prophecy of Jeremiah and had learned from it that the seventy years of the Babylonian captivity were drawing to a close [the captivity had begun in B.C. 606, and sixty-eight years had elapsed since then].

This discovery thrilled Daniel and he set his face towards God and poured out his soul in one of the most wonderful prayers recorded in the Scriptures. His prayer was interrupted by the appearance of the angel Gabriel, who had been sent at the commencement of the prayer to give Daniel understanding in the matter. Daniel was told that sixty-nine weeks [sevens] would pass from the going forth of the commandment to "restore and build Jerusalem unto Messiah the Prince" [Christ].

The date of the commandment is given in Nehemiah 2:1 as the month of Nisan in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes, the king, which was the fourteenth day of March, B.C. 445. The day when Jesus rode in triumphal entry into Jerusalem as Messiah the Prince was Palm Sunday, April 6, A.D. 32. But the time between March 14, B.C. 445 and April 6, A.D. 32 is much more than sixty-nine literal weeks. What explanation is there to this?

We are confronted with a cipher, a puzzle.

It is clear to every careful student of the Word of God that there is a "time element" in the Scriptures. We come across such expressions of time as hours, days, weeks, months, years [all of which are used in cipher-like contexts], and finally, such exotic expressions as "time, times, and the dividing of time." To be intelligible and to avoid confusion, they must all be interpreted on the same scale. What is that scale? It is given in Numbers 14:34:

"After the number of the days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years."

The Lord's scale, then, is that a day stands for a year.

Also, we must not forget that there are years of different lengths. The Lunar Year has 354 days. The Calendar Year has 360 days. The Solar Year has 365 days. The Julian Year has 365-1/4 days. Which of these years shall we use in our calculations?

The key is once again found in the Word of God. In Genesis 8:3 [in the account of the Flood], we find that the five months from the 17th day of the second month until the 17th day of the seventh month was reckoned as 150 days, or thirty days to a month or 360 days to a year. So a "Prophetic Year" is 360 days.

Sir Robert Anderson, 1841-1918

Anderson was especially close to some of the greatest biblical teachers of his day, including James Martin Gray, Cyrus Scofield, A. C. Dixon, Horatius Bonar and E. W. Bullinger. He also preached with John Nelson Darby in the West of Ireland.

Interestingly, Anderson was head of Scotland Yard for many, many years. Anderson wrote concerning his conversion to Christ; he had been "talked into" going to church by his sister where a minister "boldly preached forgiveness of sins." Anderson later " waylaid the preacher as he left the vestry, and on his homeward walk he talked to him about Christ. Anderson writes, "At last he got hold of my arm, and, facing me as we stood upon the pavement, he repeated with great solemnity his gospel message and appeal. 'I tell you,' he said, 'as a minister of Christ, and in His name, that there is life for you here and now if you will accept Him. Will you accept Christ, or will you reject Him?' After a pause - how prolonged I know not - I exclaimed, 'In God's name I will accept Christ.' Not another word passed between us; but after another pause he wrung my hand and left me. And I turned homewards with the peace of God filling my heart."

No more careful study has been made of the problem of the Seventy Weeks of Daniel than that by Sir Robert Anderson in the Coming Prince. Anderson reckons the chronology of the Sixty-Nine weeks thus:

"From the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks and threescore and two weeks." An era therefore of sixty-nine "weeks," or 483 prophetic years reckoned from the 14th of March, B.C. 445, should close with some event to satisfy the words, 'unto the Messiah the Prince'. "No student of the gospel narrative can fail to see that the Lord's last visit to Jerusalem was not only in fact, but in the purpose of it, the crisis of His ministry ... now the twofold testimony of His words and His works had been fully rendered, and His entry into the Holy City was to proclaim His Messiahship and to receive His Doom ...

"And the date of it can be ascertained. In accordance with the Jewish custom, the Lord went up to Jerusalem upon the 8th Nisan, 'six days before the Passover'. But as the 14th, on which the Paschal Supper was eaten, fell that year upon Thursday, the 8th was the preceding Friday. He must have spent the Sabbath, therefore, at Bethany; and on the evening of the 9th, after the Sabbath had ended, the Supper took place in Martha's house. Upon the following day, the 10th Nisan, He entered Jerusalem as recorded in the Gospels. "The Julian date of that 10th Nisan was Sunday the 6th April, A.D. 32.

What then was the length of the period intervening between the issuing of the decree to rebuild Jerusalem and the public advent of 'Messiah the Prince' - between the 14th March, B.C. 445, and the 6th April, A.D. 32? THE INTERVAL CONTAINED EXACTLY AND TO THE VERY DAY 173,880 DAYS, OR SEVEN TIMES SIXTY-NINE PROPHETIC YEARS OF 360 DAYS, the first sixty-nine weeks of Gabriel's prophecy."

Anderson arrives at his figures as follows:

"The 1st Nisan in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes [the edict to rebuild Jerusalem] was 14 March, B.C. 445. "The 10th Nisan in Passion Week [Christ's entry into Jerusalem] was 6th April, A.D. 32. "The intervening period was 476 years and 24 days [the days being reckoned inclusively, as required by the language of the prophecy, and in accordance with the Jewish practice].

476 x 36 =

173,740 days

Add [14 March to 6th
April, both inclusive

24 days

Add for leap years

116 days

173,880 days

What do we come up with then? Sixty-nine weeks of prophetic years of 360 days [or 69 x 7 x 360] =173,880 days."

Thus, as Pentecost suggests,

"... Anderson shows us that the sixty-nine weeks began with the decree to rebuild Jerusalem and terminated at the triumphal entry into Jerusalem on the Sunday of the week of the Lord's death. The corrected reading of Luke 19:42, spoken as our Lord came into Jerusalem on that day is most significant: "if thou also hadst known, even on this day, the things which belong to thy [Jerusalem's] peace; but now they are hid from thine eyes." The accuracy of Daniel's prophecy is observed in that he states 'after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off' (Dan. 9:26)."
