"The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private [i.e., corporate] power."

President Franklin Roosevelt

Corporate power taking control
of the government like an octopus.

One of the great problems facing American Christians as the "end of the age" approaches is their disposition of mind to blame the cultural, political and economic difficulties they are facing on some kind of OUTSIDE conspiracy led by anti-God zealots – zealots who live in utter juxtaposition to the way they live and "arrange" their lives. For example, during the Cold War, Christians feared that a conspiratorial body known variously as the Insiders, the Secret Team, the High Cabal, the World-Wide Jewish Conspiracy, etc. was secretly working to destroy "Christian America" and sell the country out to the Soviet Union, which would then establish a one-world government. Contrary to the fears (and even expectations) of these Christians, however, the Soviet Union collapsed; nonetheless, this has not ended their anxiety: Many Christians still continue to worry about the Kremlin, eyeing the Soviet collapse suspiciously as a charade intended to get Americans to put down their guard.

Many more have continued to worry about a one-world authority, but have changed the object of their worry from communism and the once powerful Soviet Union to a toothless United Nations animated by "New Age" thinking – a U.N. that is seeking to impose its will on the United States, though one cannot help but wonder how it will accomplish this because it wholly lacks the military wherewithal to do so.

Then there are those who expect a more surreptitious invasion: A secret incursion into the United States by forces under United Nations command, sometimes called the Multi Jurisdictional Task Force. Indeed, many imagine that the signs of this coming invasion are all around us – from black helicopters to secret codes embedded on the backs of highway signs with instructions for invading troops; for example, in Michigan, a smear of blue paint on the back of a road sign indicates the presence of water nearby, green a resting place, and brown gasoline. Others think the invasion is already underway, with some 300,000 Russian, Red Chinese and Gurkha troops secreted away in locations around the United States. Reports are sometimes highly specific, mentioning 40,000 U.N. troops in San Diego, 14,000 in Anchorage, and a battalion of Gurkhas in Montana. [Please see our article, "The Civilian Militias and the Mythology of the Religious Right."]

Finally, there is the perennial idiocy surrounding various so-called covert SATANIC societies such as the Illuminati, Skull and Bones, the Bilderbergers, the CFR, etc. [Please see our articles, "The Origins of the Illuminist Myth" and "Pat Robertson, Illuminism and the New World Order."]

President Franklin Roosevelt once said:

"The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private [i.e., corporate] power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership of government by ... a group or any controlling private [corporate] power."

Echoing what Roosevelt said, Heywood Broun, a noted American columnist of the 1930s, wrote:

"Fascism is a dictatorship from the extreme right, or to put it a little more closely into our local idiom, A GOVERNMENT WHICH IS RUN BY A SMALL GROUP OF LARGE INDUSTRIALISTS AND FINANCIAL LORDS ... I think it is not unfair to say that any businessman in America, or public leader, who goes out to break unions is laying the foundations for fascism."

Busting unions by the corporate elites using the police power of the state against average Americans.

NOTE: Concerning the Business Right's inclination to "bust" unions (which most Christians in America are prone to go along with), Glen Yeardon and John Hawkins assert in their book, The Nazi Hydra in America, that the vilification and destruction of the trade union movement is essential to the establishment of corporate power in the United States or any country for that matter. Such an attack is necessary because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist regime. In the end, "labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are co-opted and severely suppressed." [Please see "The United States: Replicating the Slave Economy of the Old South and Leaving Average Citizens to Sink into Poverty," "Capitalism and Christianity" and "The Deceitfulness of Riches and the Marxist Paradigm."]

In the absence of powerful unions the elites are free to create a situation in the country where, as Yeardon and Hawkins suggest -

  • Corporate Power is Protected: The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist state put their own people into government, creating a mutually beneficial business-government relationship and power elite.

  • Rampant Cronyism and Corruption: Fascist regimes are almost always governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions, and then use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders. Nothing demonstrates this more than the way the government has protected Wall Street during the current economic crisis, and has let "Main Street" go.

  • Unbridled Corporatism: The corporate leaders direct government policy for their own benefit. Fascism reduces controls on business and suppresses or bans unions. [Please see our articles, "The Elite, Money and the End of Days," "The Derivatives Market," "Greed, Avarice and the Coming Dictatorship."]

Unbridled corporatism, rampant cronyism and unchecked corruption.

If that's the case (i.e., that fascism is a government controlled by corporate power) – and it surely is – then the recent Supreme Court decision giving private corporations the same rights in elections as average citizens is a HUGE step in the direction of a fascist takeover of our country.

Commenting on the Supreme Court's decision to equate corporations with average Americans in the electoral process, David Kaplan, a contributing editor for Fortune Magazine, writes:

"SO MUCH FOR THE DEMISE OF CORPORATE AMERICA, at least in the popular imagination ... Yesterday [i.e., January 21, 2010], the justices issued one of their most important business decisions in decades. Overturning two prior cases and undoing a century of First Amendment doctrine, a monumentally divided court ruled that corporations, well, are just like people, too. No longer can those corporations be banned by Congress from spending whatever they wanted on advertisements on political candidates. MONEY IS SPEECH."

Money is speech! - So ruled the American Supreme Court; if that's the case, then America has fallen victim to the whims of the corporate elites.

Adam Liptak of Reuters agrees with Kaplan; he writes:

"ALLOWING CORPORATE MONEY TO FLOOD THE POLITICAL MARKETPLACE WILL CORRUPT DEMOCRACY. The ruling represents a sharp doctrinal shift, and it will have major political and practical consequences. Specialists in campaign finance law say THEY EXPECT THE DECISION TO RESHAPE THE WAY ELECTIONS ARE CONDUCTED IN THE UNITED STATES ..."

America's politicians - "bought off" by the corporate elites

Tom Eley of WSW goes on to say:

"THE RULING IS A NAKED ASSERTION OF THE INTERESTS OF THE AMERICAN FINANCIAL ELITE. It lays bare the reality of class rule beneath the threadbare trappings of democracy in America. The decision in the case 'Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission', which overturns more than 100 years of legal precedent, strengthens the grip of big business over the political process. IT GIVES LEGAL SANCTION TO THE BUYING OF POLITICIANS AND OFFICES AT EVERY LEVEL OF GOVERNMENT, AND COMPELS THEM TO DO THE BIDDING OF THE RICH."

The Supreme Court - bought up lock, stock and barrel by America's financial elites.

NOTE: Naturally enough, most Christians have applauded this ruling, believing that in advantaging America's business elites, the Supreme Court has advantaged Christians as well because it is precisely with these elites that Christians have allied themselves. But in so doing these same Christians are doing nothing more than helping the elites build the gallows on which they will someday be hanged.

Meanwhile, their leaders (like Texe Marrs and Alex Jones) continue to scurry about stalking the phantoms and ghosts of the Illuminist Conspiracy and haunting the Bohemian Grove on the outskirts of San Francisco in order to catch a glimpse of the specters they stupidly believe are responsible for the dangerous situation in which they find themselves. [Please see our articles, "The American Empire: The Corporate / Pentagon / CIA / Missionary Archipelago" and "Making Merchandise out of the People of God."]

This ruling, which – in reality - not only equates corporations with average citizens, but actually elevates these corporations above ordinary citizens, is the result of years and years of "court packing" by America's business elites – business elites who have been acting behind various faηades that make a pretense of defending the rights of "Traditional America" – business elites whose only real agenda has been to legitimize their own GREED. [Again, please see our article, "The Business Right and the Religious Right: An Alliance Made in Hell; also, please see our article, "The Elite, Money and the End of Days."]

Eley continues:

"This ruling is the outcome of decades of political reaction, the ever-greater concentration of wealth in the hands of a narrow elite, and increasing attacks on the social conditions of the people. [Please see our article, "The Measure of a Man's Worth."]

"The Supreme Court's decision reflects the drive of the American financial aristocracy to throw off any and all restraints on its political domination ... In fact, the ruling shows that working people, the vast majority of the population, cannot defend their interests through the existing political system ...

"More fundamentally, the ruling demonstrates that the socio-economic structure of American capitalist society is incompatible with democracy. Democratic forms become mere covers for plutocratic rule and must ultimately give way in a society with such vast disparities of wealth as exist in the United States." [Please see our article, "The Divergence of the Rich from the Poor."]

It's in this respect (see above) that Eley goes on to assert that the nominations of Justice Samuel Alito and Chief Justice John Roberts to the Supreme Court were the results of a very specific and purposeful effort by the business elites to reduce the Supreme Court to lackey status in the interests of America's super-rich; he writes:

"It was Roberts who played the critical role in seizing on 'Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission' - a narrow lawsuit challenging the applicability of the McCain-Feingold restrictions on campaign advertising to a particular anti-Hillary Clinton documentary - and using it to undo all restraints on the corporate financing of politics."

Justice Samuel Alito and Chief Justice John Roberts.

Both of them are nothing more than Lackeys of the elites who pose as champions of "Traditional America" while promoting the interests of corporate power.

NOTE: One should take careful note here of how America's business elites (and the majority of the members of the Supreme Court) cloaked what they were doing behind the guise of a case that on its surface seemed to be upholding views that would appeal to members of the Religious Right – AN ATTACK ON HILLARY CLINTON, the so-called nemesis of every so-called "right-thinking" Christian, a ruse that, unfortunately, most American Christians have fallen for.

Journalist Tom Carter is appalled at the logic of the 5 to 4 decision of the Supreme Court; he writes:

"THE RULING ... AMOUNTS TO A LEGAL BLANK CHECK FOR CORPORATIONS AND THE FINANCIAL ELITES THAT CONTROL THEM TO OPENLY PURCHASE POLITICIANS AND INSTALL THEM IN POWER. It renders even more threadbare the pretension that the formal holding of elections in the US constitutes genuine democracy. '[W]e now conclude that independent expenditures, including those made by corporations, do not give rise to corruption or the appearance of corruption', wrote Justice Kennedy. 'The fact that speakers [i.e., donors] may have influence over or access to elected officials does not mean that these officials are corrupt'.

"The opinion goes on, quoting from Kennedy's prior opinions, to make the case for unrestrained corporate spending on elections: 'Favoritism and influence are not ... avoidable in representative politics.

"It is in the nature of an elected representative to favor certain policies, and, by necessary corollary, to favor the voters and contributors who support those policies.

"It is well understood that a substantial and legitimate reason, if not the only reason, to cast a vote for, or to make a contribution to, one candidate over another is that the candidate will respond by producing those political outcomes the supporter favors. Democracy is premised on responsiveness'."

American plutocracy (rule by the rich) is in the ascendancy

Carter continues:

"This Orwellian characterization of democracy could have been dictated by the hedge funds, financial institutions, insurance companies and pharmaceutical corporations that routinely inject billions into American politics in return for favors ..."

America is beginning to look more and more like the government of "BIG BROTHER" as described in George Orwell's novel, 1984.

Yeardon and Hawkins assert:

"Since fascism is a rebellion by the elites to preserve their own power against the 'Great Unwashed Masses' FASCISM IS FIRST AND FOREMOST A TOP-DOWN REVOLUTION OR MOVEMENT. This is the primary reason that fascism begins in times of economic dislocation - when the elites believe their economic interests are at risk from a revolt by the 'people'.

"While a large number of Hitler's followers came from the middle and lower classes, the elites of German society actually controlled the party. IT WAS ONLY AFTER HITLER ASSURED PROMINENT BUSINESS LEADERS OF HIS OPPOSITION TO SOCIALISM AND UNIONS THAT HE GAINED POWER." [Please see our articles, "A Revolt against Elite Power Is in the Air, and the Elites Are Breathing Fire Against It," "The Divergence of the Rich from the Poor," "Lee Kyang: The Rich and the Poor; God and America," "The Versailles Phenomenon" and "The Third World as a Model for the New World Order."]

FASCISM IS FIRST AND FOREMOST A 'TOP-DOWN' REVOLUTION OR MOVEMENT'. This is the primary reason that fascism begins in times of economic dislocation - THE KIND OF DISLOCATION WE ARE EXPERIENCING TODAY - when the elites believe their economic interests are at risk from a revolt by the 'people'.

In the United States this fact is no more better illustrated than by the relationship that exists between Fox News, Roger Ailes and Glenn Beck (on the one hand), and the TEA PARTY REBELLION (on the other hand); the very real fact of the matter is, the so-called TEA PARTY REBELLION is the epitome of "a top-down" revolution or movement as described by Yeardon and Hawkins.

Fox News, Roger Ailes and Glenn Beck

The Tea Party Revolution

Please see video below

The 1932 poster reads, "The meaning behind the Hitler Salute" - meaning Nazis taking money from Germany's financial elites.

It represents an effort by the super-rich to co-opt the legitimate rage of America's Middle Class and place it at the service of America's financial elites much in the same fashion that the financial elites of Germany co-opted Hitler's Nazi Movement and made it serve their interests – specifically, the destruction of socialism which at the time threatened to strip the German elites of their wealth.

This is what Chris Parry of the Vancouver Sun, believes; he has labeled the Tea Party Revolution -

"A ... corporate-financed 'grassroots' movement ... paid for, planned and promoted by right wing think tanks, corporate lobbyists and the Fox News Channel ..."

Parry goes on to say:

"The ... 'tea parties' are being pushed by Republican operatives and partisan advocacy groups such as 'Freedom.Works,' a conservative advocacy group helmed by former Republican House Majority Leader Dick Armey."

David Koch

In 2004, Citizens for a Sound Economy (CSE) and Empower America merged to form "Freedom.Works" – and the same forces that once propelled CSE are now propelling "Freedom.Works." Thus, if one understands the political milieu out from which CSE emerged, one can easily track the forces that now animate "Freedom.Works." CSE was founded by prominent right-wing funder and billionaire David Koch (#10 on Forbes list of the richest men in the country) in 1984; he is chairman of Koch Industries; Koch claims that the most important thing in his life is his belief in Christ as his savior - and this despite the fact that much of his wealth was acquired through ruthless business practices that utterly contradict the teachings of the Bible.

Tea Party "revolutionaries" as mere puppets of the super-rich.

According to Forbes Magazine, most of the money used by CSI (and now "Freedom.Works") came (comes) from corporations and trade groups such as the American Petroleum Institute and the National Association of Manufacturers. This was confirmed by a separate "internal document" obtained recently by The Washington Post.

It is precisely this cabal of "GREEDY-GUSES" that influenced Robert Murdoch to place Roger Ailes, a long-time political functionary for the business-wing of the Republican Party, in charge of Fox News – a throng of "richy-riches" that Paul Krugman of The New York Times says is calling the shots in the Roger Ailes / Fox News / Glenn Beck / Richard Armey network that has now seized control of the TEA PARTY MOVEMENT.

Krugman refers to this group as –

"... the usual collection of right-wing billionaires."

Now stop and think about the absurdity of this! – BILLIONAIRES IN CHARGE OF A "POPULIST REVOLUTION?" Plainly, something's wrong here!

Commenting on the massive involvement of Fox News in the TEA PARTY RALLY in Washington D.C. last summer, Parry writes:

"In the lead-up to the event, Fox News featured 9 segments and 40 promos over just two days, according to the watchdog website Media Matters. Over a one-week period, 10 in-show promos were given by Fox presenter Sean Hannity, while Neil Cavuto and Glen Beck delivered 5 each.

"Cavuto did seven news segments on the event. All Fox News shows featured commercials advertising the protests during that time, and they were regularly described as 'FNC [Fox News Channel] Tax Day Tea Parties' by on-air personalities."

Washington D.C. TEA PARTY RALLY which the mainline press tried desperately to "play down." Nonetheless, it was a huge success, and its impact on the country has been huge as demonstrated recently by the election of Republican governors in Virginia and New Jersey, and the election of Scott Brown in Massachusetts.

A government that promotes spying on its citizens - that's what the Fox News nexus is promoting in its "Revolution from the Top-Down."

And, again, one should make no mistake: That's precisely what the Roger Ailes / Fox News / Glenn Beck / Richard Armey axis is promoting: A "TOP TO BOTTOM" REVOLUTION PRESIDED OVER BY A COTERIE OF RICH BILLIONAIRES. Moreover, one should pay particular attention to the frenzied rhetoric Fox News is using in promoting the TEA PARTY MOVEMENT; for example, take a recent exchange between Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly:

BECK: Last week, I head you ... talking about an insurrection coming.

O'REILLY: Yeah, I think people, when they figure out how badly they're going to get hurt in the next few years, there's going to be a tea party on taxes and its gonna get nasty. Nancy Pelosi is going to be found bobbing up and down [dead] in Boston Harbor.

Commenting on O'Reilly's death threat – and make no mistake about it, this kind of "trash talk" is not done "tongue in cheek," it is all too familiar on Fox News - regarding Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Parry writes,

"This is, without a doubt, as close as you can come to actually calling for a violent insurrection without actually saying 'We should have a violent insurrection'. This is more like hoping for an insurrection, and then setting up the buses to get people to the insurrection, promoting it and then walking around in the middle of it while saying loudly 'If we do have to kill someone here, I can think of a few names' ...

"What goes on at Fox and in the Republican Party on a daily basis is nothing short of an actual insurrection against our Democracy. They shriek at the rule of law and prefer authoritarianism, THEY HIDE CORPORATIST INTENT BEHIND A FAKE POPULIST PLATFORM, they undermine our Democracy at every chance they get, and all in the name of 'freedom and liberty'. Joseph Goebbles, Propaganda Minster for the Third Reich, would certainly be proud of the propaganda job they are doing."

Goebbles in the middle; then from left to right beginning at the top: Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly, and Joseph Ailes.

Parry goes on to say,

"Hell, they [i.e., those at Fox News] are practically running his [i.e. Goebbles] playbook! The fact that the tea party protests mirror fascism in their hate of 'the other' [i.e., minorities], and are inspired by the moneyed powers that openly manipulate people, defend torture, war crimes and the Government's illegal spying on its citizens is undeniable ... When those [i.e., the richy-riches] who are the biggest promoters of the 'Peoples' Insurrection' openly talk of murder and violence, it doesn't take much to see what kind of government they are promoting, and the disgusting means they are willing to use to affect their ends [WHILE ALL THE TIME CLOAKING THEMSELVES WITH THE MANTLE OF CHRISTIANITY]."

The proof of it (i.e., the fact that they are hiding behind the cloak of Christianity while promoting violence and even murder) lies in the fact that almost all those associated with the Fox News / Freedom.Works nexus claim openly and very loudly to be Christians – and the same is true of ALL those who constitute the BILLIONAIRE CLUB that stands behind this immoral, double-dealing nexus; for example, Tom Phillips, the former CEO of arms manufacturer Raytheon Corporation; Ken Olsen, the founder and president of Digital Equipment Corporation; Raymond Q. Armington, the wealthy Cleveland-based founder of Armington Engineering Company; Carl Lindner of Chiquita Foods (used to be called United Fruit – please see our article, "The American Empire: The Corporate / Pentagon / CIA / Missionary Archipelago"); Joseph, Jeffrey and Peter Coors of Coors Brewing; Sanford McDonnell of McDonnell Douglas Corporation (now merged with Boeing); Jerome A. Lewis, the chairman of Petro-Lewis, one of the largest oil and natural gas partnership firms in the world; Maryland oilman Paul N. Temple; Richard Scaife, heir to the Mellon banking, oil, and aluminum fortune, and on and on and on ad nauseum – men who believe in a Christianity where –

  • A man's worth (including his "spiritual worth") can be measured by the "things" he possesses, and that the "highest calling" on a man's life is the pursuit of wealth.

  • That poverty is a product of personal failure, and - as a result - the poor have only themselves to blame for their own poverty.

  • That men of wealth should rule the nation. [Please see our article, "Racism and Right-Wing Christianity."]

  • That capitalism and the "American free enterprise system" are "God-ordained," and that socialism or any other form of "wealth re-distribution" is anti-God and anti-Christian. [Please see our articles, "Capitalism and Christianity" and "The Deceitfulness of Riches and the Marxist Paradigm."]

Until very recently, ALL governments in the Western World legitimized their rule by "divine right."

Very obviously, these are very undemocratic ideas – ideas that cannot be based on the "will of the people," but which must justify themselves by a resort to religion, or the so-called "Rule of God."

It's here that one must realize that naked power alone is NEVER sufficient to establish any kind of long-lasting authority, as the collapse of communism two decades ago so clearly demonstrated.

But since the rule of the rich over the poor is an idea that the poor will not readily embrace, the rich must legitimize their authority in some other fashion, which brings us to the "Will of God" (Regnum & Sacerdotium), rather than the "Will of the People" (Vox Populi) as a means of legitimizing authority.

Concerning this point, Yeardon and Hawkins write:

"As the power of the elites grows ever more autocratic and undemocratic, the elites are forced to resort to sources other than 'the people' to justify their continued rule. Government 'of the people, by the people and for the people' has now become nothing more than an empty phrase."

"And I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet colored beast" (Revelation 17:3)

It's at this point that the elites must inevitably turn to religion in one form or another to justify their rule - and so it is that religion and government become intertwined as depicted in Revelation in the figure of a woman (religion) riding a beast (the state).

Yeardon and Hawkins continue:

"Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Government leaders frequently use religious rhetoric, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions." [We URGE you to read our new article, "Transitioning from Christianity to Fascism;" please also see our articles "Political Christianity" and "Regnum and Sacerdotium;" please also see "The Rich Have Seized Control of the Church."]

Yeardon and Hawkins go on:

"As religion continues to be pressed into service by the elites to justify their increasingly autocratic rule, those who fall outside the parameters of the state's religion and culture are identified as enemies and scapegoats. This usually translates into an unremitting persecution of -

  • Racial minorities.

  • Ethnic minorities.

  • Religious minorities.

  • Liberals.

  • Communists.

  • Socialists.

  • The gay and lesbian community."

[Again, please see our article, "Beware! - All Those Who Don't Fit into America's Euro-Centric, Christian Culture: The Brownshirts Are Coming for You;" please also see our articles, "The Creation of an Enemy Absolute Beginning First with the Gay and Lesbian Community," "The Hamitic Hypothesis," "Growing Rage in America's Heartland," "The Rutherford Institute and R.J. Rushdoony."]

And make no mistake about it, this is exactly the direction that Fox News is taking – launching an unremitting attack on all those who in any way are not locked into America's Euro-centered / Free Enterprise / Christian social and political structure – and this attack is going "mainstream." For example, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is reporting a huge resurgence of anti-government activity tinged with attacks on America's minority communities. The SPLC reports that the extent to which these attacks have gained popular support from elected officials and other mainstream media outlets is breathtaking.

Lawmakers complaining about the intrusiveness of the federal government have introduced 10th Amendment resolutions (reasserting that those powers not granted to the federal government remain with the states) in about three dozen states. In Texas, Gov. Rick Perry raised the prospect of secession several months after Obama's inauguration -- a notion first brought up there in the '90s by the militia-like Republic of Texas. U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) said she feared that the president was planning "reeducation camps run by the United Nations for young people," while U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.), evoking memories of the discredited communist-hunter Sen. Joseph McCarthy, warned of 17 "socialists" in Congress.

Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann, Spencer Bachus

The original anti-government movement - which originated during the Clinton years in the 1990s - also had its mainstream backers, but they were largely confined to talk radio; today, Beck is just one of many well-known cable TV news personalities to spread militia-movement ideas. Take CNN's Lou Dobbs who – before he resigned from the network – went ballistic over the threat of an invasion of brown-skinned people bent on swamping America's Euro-centered, Christian culture.

NOTE: The original militia movement took off in the mid-1990s, with the first large militias appearing in 1994 and growth continuing over the next several years. The movement reflected widespread anger over what was seen as the meddling of a relatively liberal administration in Washington -- from gun control to environmental laws to a variety of other federal mandates. But what really ignited the movement was the bloodshed in Ruby Ridge, Idaho, and Waco, Texas. In 1992, during a standoff between white supremacist Randy Weaver's family in Idaho and federal agents -- a confrontation that began with Weaver's sale of an illegal weapon -- Weaver's son and wife were killed, along with a U.S. marshal. The following year, some 80 members of the gun-loving Branch Davidian cult died in a fire that ended a 52-day standoff with federal agents in Texas. Thousands of Americans saw these events as proof that the federal government was prepared to murder its own citizens in order to enforce a kind of liberal orthodoxy -- a so-called "New World Order" (NWO) that reflected the economic and political globalization that militia backers felt was robbing their country of its independence and unique culture.

On FOX News, Dick Morris said, "Those crazies in Montana who say, 'We're going to kill ATF agents because the U.N.'s going to take over' -- well, they're beginning to have a case."

On MSNBC, commentator Pat Buchanan suggested recently that white Americans are now suffering "exactly what was done to black folks." And on FOX News, Dick Morris said, "Those crazies in Montana who say, 'We're going to kill ATF agents because the U.N.'s going to take over' -- well, they're beginning to have a case."

At the same time, players like the National Rifle Association, which in the 1990s publicly attacked federal law enforcement agents as "jackbooted thugs," are back at it. Two months before the election last fall, firearms manufacturers joined forces to promote NRA membership in a national campaign ominously dubbed "Prepare for the Storm in 2008."

Gun shows, too, are back as major venues for militia-like ideology. In a video produced in April by Max Blumenthal, senior writer at the online news site The Daily Beast, one man interviewed at a show said, "If Obama tries to get rid of our guns, it's just a step away from trying to take away everything else." Another said show attendees were "preparing for the worst."

Prepare for the coming storm!

Patriot ideology has also crept into the current anti-government movement – particularly in the anti-tax "tea parties" that were staged by conservatives around the country in April and July. Once again, fearful Patriots are scurrying to prepare for what they see as the coming societal meltdown, stockpiling not only weaponry but food and an array of other items. Newsletter publisher Lee Bellinger, for instance, peddles Social Chaos Survival Guide: Smart, Savvy Precautions to Make You Self-Reliant in These Dangerous Times and warns of "impending national social chaos." The book, he says, is "for people who want to stand their ground without attracting a whole lot of attention -- either from the authorities" or "mobs of desperate fellow citizens."

According to the SPLC, the situation has many authorities worried. Militiamen, white supremacists, anti-Semites, nativists, tax protesters and a range of other activists of the radical right are cross-pollinating and are coalescing with TEA PARTY activists and those who have been incited by Fox News – AND THEY ARE DOING SO WITHOUT EVER REALIZING THAT THE MONEY BEHIND THE MOVEMENT IS BEING PROVIDED BY THE BILLIONAIRE CLUB THAT IS UNDERGIRDING FOX NEWS AND FREEDOM.WORKS.

Card-carrying members of the country's BILLIONAIRE CLUB: The CEOs of the country's largest oil companies

According to law enforcement officials in Missouri, what is being produced by all this anti-government rhetoric is "a lush environment for militia activity."

Bart McEntire, who has infiltrated racist hate groups and now is the supervisory special agent for the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Roanoke, Va., reports:

"You're seeing the bubbling [of antigovernment sentiment] right now. You see average people buying into what they're saying. It's primed to grow. The only thing you don't have to set it on fire is a Waco or Ruby Ridge."

Another federal law enforcement official knowledgeable about militia groups agrees (but who asked the SPLC not to identify him) concurs with what McEntire says; he says that what the country is –

"... lacking is a spark. I think it's only a matter of time before you see threats and violence."

One big difference from the militia movement of the 1990s is that the face of the federal government -- the enemy that almost all parts of the extreme right see as the primary threat to freedom -- is now black. Think about the animas against blacks this fact must undoubtedly elicit from members of the Patriot Movement: THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT – THE ENTITY THAT ALMOST THE ENTIRE RADICAL RIGHT VIEWS AS ITS PRIMARY ENEMY – IS HEADED BY A BLACK MAN.

Blacks as "Dumb Asses" and as the "Black Menace;" rationally, it would seem that blacks can't be both - nonetheless, in the eyes of many white Christians, that's what they are.

Contributing to this racial animus are the fears on the far right about the consequences of Latino immigration. More and more so-called "Patriots" are members of nativist groups like the Minutemen who fervently believe that Mexicans have a secret plan - "Plan de Aztlan" - to reconquer the American Southwest, and another involving the secretly arranged merger of the United States, Mexico and Canada into a "North American Union – and the rapidly growing numbers of so-called "illegal immigrants" only adds fuel to these beliefs.

Currently, Hispanics constitute about 15 percent of the U.S. population and blacks constitute another 12 percent. If, however, non-white immigration continues at its present rate, the number of non-Hispanic "white Americans" will drop from its current level of about 70 percent of the population to 47 percent by the year 2050 – and whites will for the first time constitute only a plurality of the population, not a majority.

Whites - Being swamped by "people of color"

Hal Lindsey

NOTE: The Patriot Movement of the 1990s was not necessarily a racist movement. That, very obviously, is no longer the case, and millions of white evangelical Christians are "buying into" this racial animas. For example, I am utterly amazed at how many emails I receive promoting the idiotic idea that Obama is the Antichrist; countless numbers of Christian leaders are even promoting this idea from their pulpits; take what Hal Lindsey wrote back in August of 2008 while Obama was still "Candidate Obama:

"Obama's World Tour was planned as the high point of his campaign, with the candidate retracing the footsteps of great presidents of the past, hobnobbing with world leaders and as one pundit put it, 'making the Europeans love us again'. Obama drew huge crowds in Berlin where he addressed them, oddly enough, as 'fellow citizens of the world'. It was a typically flowery Obama speech, but it hit an unexpectedly sour note when he dramatically intoned:

'People of Berlin – people of the world – this is our moment. This is our time. ... With an eye toward the future, with resolve in our hearts, let us remember this history, and answer our destiny, and remake the world once again'.

Obama in Berlin as "savior of the world."

"Pundits on both sides are trying to sort it out. It's a great speech, like I said, if somebody is running for president of the world, but it was too much, even for a compliant and Obama-friendly press corps. The politically 'progressive' newspaper of record, the Washington Post nicknamed Obama the 'presumptuous nominee' after his European performance. The Boston Globe ran a piece in its 'Political Intelligence' section called the 'Obama Arrogance Watch'. David Letterman did one of his signature 'Top 10' skits entitled, 'Top Ten Signs Obama is Overconfident', leading off with a proposed bill to change Oklahoma to 'Oklabama'. The London Sunday Times ran a brilliant satire piece called 'He ventured forth to bring light into the world'.

"A sample paragraph: 'When he was 12 years old, they found him in the temple in the City of Chicago, arguing the finer points of community organization with the Prophet Jeremiah and the Elders. And the Elders were astonished at what they heard and said among themselves: 'Verily, who is this Child that he opens our hearts and minds to the audacity of hope'?

"Before wrapping up his tour, Obama stopped by to address a gathering of minority journalists in Hawaii, where he once again apologized for what a rotten place America either used to be, or still is. It is hard to tell from his comment, 'I personally would want to see our tragic history, or the tragic elements of our history, acknowledged'. (Wouldn't anybody besides me personally like to see somebody in the White House who doesn't think America needs apologizing for?)

"Barack has apologized to the French and Germans for Americans who are too ignorant to learn their language before embarking on their once-in-a-lifetime two-week visit abroad. He's apologized for the simple Midwestern rednecks who, forced to cling to religion and guns to justify their antipathy, just can't help themselves. There was a time when it was considered unpatriotic to be ashamed of America, but that time is long past. Being proud of America means you are probably a Bush-loving neoconservative, so the only sure way to prevent such misidentification is to apologize for it at every opportunity.

America according to the Europeans - and not just the Europeans, but to the "Uber-elites" who support Obama.

"America has never faced so many different crises at the same time in living memory. The war with al-Qaida and Islamic terror, the Iran crisis, Afghanistan, nuclear proliferation, the rising price of oil, the falling dollar, enemy acronyms like OPEC, NAM, OIC, U.N. ... Obama is correct in saying that the world is ready for someone like him – a messiah-like figure, charismatic and glib and seemingly holding all the answers to all the world's questions.

"And the Bible says that such a leader will soon make his appearance on the scene. It won't be Barack Obama, but Obama's world tour provided a foretaste of the reception he can expect to receive. He will probably also stand in some European capital, addressing the people of the world and telling them that he is the one that they have been waiting for. And he can expect as wildly enthusiastic a greeting as Obama got in Berlin.

"THE BIBLE CALLS THAT LEADER THE ANTICHRIST. And it seems apparent that the world is now ready to make his acquaintance."

THE NOTION, HOWEVER, THAT OBAMA IS THE ANTICHRIST IS ABSOLUTELY ABUSURD – please see our article, "A Third Illusion Broken: That Antichrist Will Be a Man of Peace."

This idea is being promoted by those many, many Christian leaders who like Pastor John Hagee and others of his ilk utterly refuse to see the United States for what it really is – BABYLON THE GREAT. [Please see our articles, "The American Empire: In Search of Babylon! What Does the Bible Say" and "The Superman Theology Of The International Christian Embassy's 'Feast Of Tabernacles'."

And make no mistake about it, THE RAGE THAT IS GROWING AGAINST BLACKS (AND HISPANICS) IN THE PATRIOT MOVEMENT IS REAL. For example, in Lexington, Mass., where the opening shots of the Revolutionary War were fired in 1775, members of Oath Keepers, a newly formed group of law enforcement officers, military men and veterans, "muster" on April 19 to reaffirm their pledge to defend the U.S. Constitution. "We're in perilous times perhaps far more perilous than in 1775," says the man administering the oath. April 19 is the anniversary not only of the battle of Lexington Green, but also of the 1993 conflagration at the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas, and the lethal bombing two years later of the Oklahoma City federal building -- seminal events in the lore of the extreme right, in particular the antigovernment Patriot movement.

NOTE: It should be noted that April 19th is also the day that Hitler was born on.

The Oath Keepers take a pledge that states:

  1. We will NOT obey orders to disarm the American people.

  2. We will NOT obey orders to conduct warrantless searches of the American people

  3. We will NOT obey orders to detain American citizens as "unlawful enemy combatants" or to subject them to military tribunal.

  4. We will NOT obey orders to impose martial law or a "state of emergency" on a state.

  5. We will NOT obey orders to invade and subjugate any state that asserts its sovereignty.

  6. We will NOT obey any order to blockade American cities, thus turning them into giant concentration camps.

  7. We will NOT obey any order to force American citizens into any form of detention camps under any pretext.

  8. We will NOT obey orders to assist or support the use of any foreign troops on U.S. soil against the American people to "keep the peace" or to "maintain control."

  9. We will NOT obey any orders to confiscate the property of the American people, including food and other essential supplies.

  10. We will NOT obey any orders which infringe on the right of the people to free speech, to peaceably assemble, and to petition their government for a redress of grievances.

The SPLC says that the Oath Keepers are a particularly worrisome example of the Patriot revival. Members vow to fulfill the oaths to the Constitution that they swore while in the military or law enforcement. "Our oath is to the Constitution, not to the politicians, and we will not obey unconstitutional (and thus illegal) and immoral orders," the group says.

That same pugnacious attitude was on display after conservatives attacked an April report from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that suggested a resurgence of radical right-wing activity was under way. "We will not fear our government; they will fear us," one man, who appeared to be on active duty in the Army, said in an angry video sent to the Oath Keepers blog. In another video at the site, a man who said he was a former Army paratrooper in Afghanistan and Iraq described President Obama as "an enemy of the state," adding, "I would rather die than be a slave to my government." The Oath Keepers site soon began hawking T-shirts with slogans like "I'm a Right Wing Extremist and Damn Proud of It!"

In April, Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes -- a Yale Law School graduate and former aide to U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (a Texas Republican and hard-line libertarian) -- worried about a coming dictatorship. "We know that if the day should come where a full-blown dictatorship would come, or tyranny it can only happen if those men, our brothers in arms, go along and comply with unconstitutional, unlawful orders," Rhodes told conspiracy-minded radio host Alex Jones. "Imagine if we focus on the police and military. Game over for the New World Order."

Alex Jones promotes conspiracy theories that endorse strengthening the alliance between the church and the state - the EXACT kind of alliance that the Scriptures warn against. Please see our article, "Apostasy: Christianity in the Service of a Religio / Political / Corporate / Terrorist State." He also endorses anti-Semitic theories such as the Illuminati Myth - please see our article, "The Origins of the Illuminist Myth."

Rhodes is not the first to think so. In the 1990s, retired Phoenix cop and conspiracy enthusiast Jack McLamb created an outfit called Police Against the New World Order and produced a 75-page document entitled Operation Vampire Killer 2000: American Police Action Plan for Stopping World Government Rule. It's not known how large Oath Keepers is.

But there is some evidence beyond the group's mere existence to suggest that today's Patriots are again making inroads into law enforcement -- the leak of the DHS report, along with those of a couple of similar law enforcement reports, was likely the work of a sworn officer. Rhodes claims to know a federal officer leaked the DHS report, and says Oath Keepers is "hearing from more and more federal officers all the time."

Police against the New World Order

NOTE: Contributing to the belief that there is a U.N. plan to subvert the United States is the "Birther Movement." Birthers believe that Obama is not a real American, but was installed in the presidency as part of a secret United Nations' Plan to place a non-American in charge of the world's most powerful military – a non-American whose loyalties are with the "internationalists" and one-world government ideologues at the U.N. These spurious claim first gained traction when Jerome Corsi, politician Alan Keyes and radio show host G. Gordon Liddy questioned the validity of the president's birth certificate.

Then there is the Sovereign Citizens Movement. So-called sovereign citizens are people who subscribe to an ideology, originated by the anti-Semitic Posse Comitatus of the 1980s, that claims that whites are a higher kind of citizen -- subject only to "common law," not the dictates of the government -- while blacks are mere "14th Amendment citizens" who must obey their government masters. Although not all sovereigns subscribe to or even know about the theory's racist basis, most contend that they do not have to pay taxes, are not subject to most laws, and are not citizens of the United States.

NOTE: Posse Comitatus is the term Gordon Wendell Kahl, a North Dakota farmer, gave to his far-right militia organization of local farmers and ranchers which he founded in North Dakota in the early 1970s to fight further federal and state encroachments into their local affairs. Kahl (63) was killed on June 3, 1983 by federal law enforcement officers in a confrontation at a farmhouse in the Arkansas Ozarks.

Kahl and those who followed him saw themselves as "freedom fighters" waging war against what they considered to be the "illegal encroachment" of "outside" authorities (i.e., federal and state bureaucrats) into their private (and local) affairs. Kahl viewed himself and his organization in the same light as that of the old Germanic warlords in their long ago battle against the imperial (i.e., extra-local) pretensions of ancient Rome. Kahl's Posse Comitatus was a forerunner of today's widespread "militia movement" which, which although severely suppressed during the last fifteen years, continues as a force to be reckoned with. [Please see our articles, "The Civilian Militias and the Mythology of the Religious Right" and "Dominionism: The Theology of Today's Anti-Government Movement," and "A Growing Rage in America's Heartland."]

Gordon Kahl - martyr to "the cause"

Indeed, Kahl is hailed today as an early hero and martyr among radical right militia activists who see his death as evidence of a federal government conspiracy to deny Americans their rights. Books and songs saluting him have been written, and shirts and bumper stickers eulogizing him have become collector's items. Kahl, in keeping with Posse Comitatus doctrines recognizing no government authority above the county (i.e., local) level, had refused to renew his state driver's license in 1974. In 1977 he was charged with tax evasion on his 1972-'74 taxes and was placed on five years probation.

An arrest warrant was issued for him in March 1981 when Kahl failed to report to a Bismarck probation officer. On February 13, 1983 Kahl killed two U.S. marshals and wounded three others in an ambush which federal authorities had set to capture him [some say "kill" (i.e., murder) him] in Medina, North Dakota. Kahl escaped and a four-month search ensued. In June 1983, Kahl was discovered hiding out in an Arkansas farmhouse and was killed (Comitatus adherents say, "gunned-down") in the shootout which followed with law enforcement officers.

Moreover, evidence beyond the appearance of such "armed" groups as the Oath Keepers, the Sovereign Citizens Movement, the Minutemen Movement, etc. that angry Americans are arming themselves for action is growing. In March, for instance, a Spokane, Wash., man pleaded guilty to illegally possessing two grenade launchers, 54 grenades, 37 machine guns, eight silencers and a variety of explosives in a storage unit. The man had an "End the Fed" bumper sticker on his vehicle. In May, another Washington resident was charged with keeping an illegal cache of weapons that included an M-16 machine gun, four silencers, and two guns made by a local gunsmith and inscribed with "Christian warrior" and "NObama."

In Nebraska, a jury convicted Allison Klanecky for possession of unregistered grenade components. Prosecutors said that a search of Klanecky's barn and an underground bunker turned up dozens of containers of explosive powder, fuses and other components that could be used to make up to 93 grenades, plus an unregistered 12-gauge military shotgun called a "Streetsweeper." Klanecky was involved in an end-times group called The Prophecy Club that sells conspiracy books and DVDs on everything from the New World Order to globalism and the 9/11 attacks.

NOTE: The Prophecy Club is a HUGE organization composed largely of evangelical Christians; it endorses belief in the Illuminist Conspiracy and promotes a belief in DOMINIONISM – an eschatology that asserts the idea that the only way the Antichrist can be stopped is for the Christians to seize control of the country and return it to "Christ and the church." – [We URGE you to see the second article in our series on the Tribulation - "The Tribulation; Part 2."]

And make no mistake about it; Americans everywhere are on edge; for example, take how average Americans in Arcadia, Iowa reacted recently when the local National Guard unit tried to conduct a four-day mock search for an arms dealer that included patrolling the town's streets, distributing photos of the fictional bad guy and knocking on doors of residents who agreed to participate in the drill.

Alex Jones, the radio host and conspiracy theorist, got wind of the plans and interviewed a National Guard official, setting off an avalanche of angry calls and visits to his website from people who feared the exercise was really about imposing a dictatorship or martial law on the country. "Tell them that ANY violation of your rights will result in a 'Live Fire Exercise,'" one such person wrote on Jones' website. "If they come, come loaded for war!"

The incident showed not just how "on edge" the town's residents are, but how quickly militia enthusiasts could "mobilize against the threat" thanks to the Internet. The National Guard rapidly scaled back its planned exercise, although it denied that the deluge of complaints had anything to do with its decision.

Then there is the matter of a posting on the internet by the Idaho Citizens Constitutional Militia for a "field sniper." Accompanying the posting was a video by a member of the militia that said, "People need to wake up and start buying some of these," he said as he displayed a semi-automatic rifle. "Things are real bad, and they're going to get a lot worse."

Every month, there are militia trainings announced around the country -- and untold numbers that are not publicized. The Internet teems with training videos, information about meetings and rallies, far-fetched rumors and conspiracy theories. Joining 1990s militia stalwarts is a new generation of activists, as exemplified in the case of Edward Koernke. Koernke's father, Mark Koernke, was a prominent '90s militia propagandist known as "Mark from Michigan." The elder Koernke served nearly six years in prison on charges that included assaulting police. Today, his son hosts an Internet radio show devoted to all things militia. [Please see our article, "The Civilian Militias and the Mythology of the Religious Right."]

A special report by Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center reports that -

"All that's lacking [too ignite a conflagration] is a spark; it's only a matter of time."

And believe me when I say, many, many Christians are going to be burned in this conflagration – swept up in the same kind of rage against the Left that gripped German Christians and propelled Hitler into power.

Christians are being MANIPULATED; they are being led about by a BILLIONAIRE'S CLUB whose members mouth patriotic slogans and sing Christian hymns while keeping the poor beaten down and "in line" and generally treating them like "human trash" AND IN DOING SO, MAKING CHRISTIANS PARTNERS IN THEIR CRIMES.

Remarking on the nightmare "good" Christians are helping the rich to create in America, Jeremy Scahill writes:
