[The inverse relationship that exists between the
rich and high unemployment: Busting unions]

Today's unemployed.

An inverse or negative relationship is a relationship in which the fate of one variable - for example, the poor (expressed as y) - grows worse, while the fate of a second variable - for example, the rich (expressed as x) - gets better. This is precisely the relationship that exists between unemployment and the rich. As unemployment worsens, the rich get richer.

Moreover, this is exactly the relationship that the Bible says will develop between the rich and the poor in the end of days:

"They that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition." (1 Timothy 6:9)

"A measure of wheat for a penny [literally - denarius, a Greek coin which represented a WHOLE DAYS wages in the ancient world], and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine." (Rev. 6:6)

The meaning of this lyric is that the condition of man during this era (i.e., the "end of days") will be reduced to such that he will have to labor a whole day simply to buy a loaf of bread or three measures of barley. But the second part of the lyric [i.e., "... and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine ..."] means that the "hard times" of this period will not extend to the elites. This is the common interpretation - the one subscribed to by such authorities as Ryrie, Pentecost, Ironside, Gaebelein, etc.

SADLY, the Bible indicates that the church will help to develop this despicable relationship between the poor and the rich in the "end of days" - AND IN DOING SO, IT WILL BE HELPING TO CONSTRUCT A TRAP THAT WILL EVENTUALLY ENSNARE ITS MEMBERS. [We urge you to see our article, "Apostasy: Christianity in the Service of a Religio-Political-Corporate-Terrorist State;" please also see our article, "The Rich Have Seized Control of the Church."]

There exists a concept within the ranks of the elites that is so hideous and repugnant that these same elites are very careful to hide it: the necessity for them to possess a RESERVE ARMY OF LABOR - that is to say, a PERMANENT LEVEL OF HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT - that guarantees to the elites a cheap and compliant source of workers.

When there exists a high, permanent level of unemployment - as there exists today in the United States - the elites can easily rid themselves of "trouble makers" (i.e., those who might attempt to form a union to enforce their demand for a "living wage") and replace them with more compliant workers, workers who are willing to "bow and scrape before their masters" in order to feed themselves and their families; in addition, the elites are able to "drive down wages" and add the amount saved from the paychecks of their employees to their own "wallets." As a result, a large and permanent level of unemployment guarantees higher profits to the elites.

NOTE: A permanent level of high unemployment presupposes a working population that is to a large extent dependent on a wage or salary for a living, without having other means of livelihood - which is the case in all Western societies, and especially in the United States. The wage-laborer's starkest choice in this context is to work for an employer or face poverty or starvation.

There are, of course, those who say that the elites are being extremely short-sighted in embracing this concept; typical of those who view "downwaging" and anti-worker activity as a short-sighted policy by the elites is this comment from the DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND website:

"This is what happened in most of our southern states: most jobs pay very low wages, are hard to get full-time hours, no benefits."

"I continually ask myself about Republicans [i.e., meaning the business elites]; are they really so cruel and heartless about the working poor? I've acquaintances that are Republican, they are shallow and uniformed (ignorant is more like it, since they prefer to be uniformed); they put business above relationships and scorn anyone that doesn't. I believe they idealize themselves as some sort of martyr sacrificing family and friends 'just to make it'. I do not know if they are cruel, I do not want to know them that well.

"I remember in college when I worked for a man that got the National Right to Work Committee Newsletter, the first time I read it I was shocked. It was an organization started back in the 50's to break the unions. It told employers how to "save money" by hiring part-time employees, no benefits or unions.

NOTE: The National Right to Work Committee is a virulent anti-union organization funded by America's business elites; for many years it was headed up by Reed Larsen, a man who styles himself as a devout "born-again" Christian.

Poor southern mill workers

"My boss asked me what I thought of it, I told him it would be their downfall, because without consumers they wouldn't exist, and it there weren't full-time jobs with benefits to help maintain the middle-class, there would be no consumers. He agreed...

"This is what happened in most of our southern states, most jobs pay very low wages, are hard to get full-time hours, no benefits. Talk about repression and a welfare society.

"What people refuse to realize is that the number of good jobs, with a livable wage, benefits and hours, are greatly out-numbered by the barely subsistent jobs...if there are not enough living wage jobs, there is nowhere to go, no chances to better the condition and no hope.

"Do the Republicans think far enough into the future consequences of their promotions? Do they really know what they wrought? Are they really just uncaring, cold hearted, 'I've got mine, too bad for you' people?"

However, the belief that the elites will suffer because "downwaging" destroys the consumers that the elites need to buy their products does not play out in reality. Indeed, the following chart indicates that the opposite is true.

Note that when the rich controlled less of the nation's wealth - during the 1950s, '60s, 70s and early '80s - unemployment was relatively low; but when unemployment (or under-employment) was highest, the rich controlled much more of the nation's wealth - specifically, during the period 1900 - to the early 1940s, and from the mid-1980s until today. WHAT ALL THIS PLAINLY SUGGESTS IS THAT UNEMPLOYMENT AND/OR UNDEREMPLOYMENT BENEFITS THE RICH. It is precisely for this reason that the business elites promote an "open border" with Mexico and the "off-shoring" of American jobs - i.e., to increase unemployment and/or under-employment in the American work force.

And this is true today during the so-called "Great Recession."

The very real fact of the matter is, while the middle-class is being "downwaged" in today's economy - or loosing their jobs altogether - the elites are getting richer: Again, what this "gives the lie to" is the belief by many that the elites have a built in incentive in preserving the incomes of America's middle class. THEY HAVE NONE!

Nutronix International reports the following sobering facts:

  • IN 1985, THE FORBES 400 were worth $221 billion combined. Today, they're worth $1.13 trillion-more than the GDP of Canada.

The rich are controlling more and more of the nation's wealth

  • ADJUSTED FOR INFLATION, the federal minimum wage has fallen 42% since its peak in 1968.

  • IF THE $5.15 HOURLY minimum wage had risen at the same rate as CEO compensation since 1990, it would now stand at $23.03.

  • A MINIMUM WAGE employee who works 40 hours a week for 51 weeks a year goes home with $10,506 before taxes.

  • SUCH A WORKER would take 7,000 years to earn Oracle CEO Larry Ellison's yearly compensation.

  • THE $17,530 EARNED by the average Wal-Mart employee last year was $1,820 below the poverty line for a family of 4.

  • 5 OF AMERICA'S 10 richest people are Wal-Mart heirs.

  • PUBLIC COMPANIES spend 10% of their earnings compensating their top 5 executives.

  • 1,730 BOARD MEMBERS of the nation's 1,000 leading companies sit on the boards of 4 or more other corporations-including half of Coca-Cola's 14-person board.

Share of wealth held by the rich and affluent.

  • LAST YEAR 250 COMPANIES gave top execs between $50,000 and $1 million worth of wholly personal flights on corporate jets.

  • THIS PERK is 66% more costly to companies whose CEO belongs to out-of-state golf clubs.

  • THE U.S. GOVERNMENT spends $500,000 on 8 security screeners who speed execs from a Wall Street helipad to American's JFK terminal.

  • UNITED HAS CUT the pensions and salaries of most employees but promised 400 top executives 8% of the shares it expects to issue upon emerging from bankruptcy.

  • UNITED'S TOP 8 execs will also get a bonus of between 55% and 100% of their salaries.

  • IN 2002, "turnaround artist" Robert Miller dumped Bethlehem Steel's pension obligation, allowing "vulture investor" Wilbur L. Ross to buy steel stock and sell it at a 1,000% profit.

Income inequality by nation: Clearly, the United States has the highest degree of income inequality.

  • IN 2005, DELPHI HIRED Miller for $4.5 million. After Ross said he might buy Delphi if its labor costs fell, Miller demanded wage cuts of up to 63% and dumped the pension obligation.

  • 10 FORMER ENRON directors agreed to pay shareholders a $13 million settlement-which is 10% of what they made by dumping stock while lying about the company's health.

  • POOR AMERICANS spend 1/4 of their income on residential energy costs.

  • EXXON'S 2005 PROFIT of $36.13 billion is more than the GDP of 2/3 of the world's nations.

  • CEO PAY AMONG military contractors has tripled since 2001. For David Brooks, the CEO of bulletproof vest maker DHB, has risen 13,233%.

NOTE: As we have indicated over and over again on the pages of this website, the U.S. government is very deliberately understating the REAL unemployment rate for the country. In June, the government announced that the U.S. unemployment rate in the United States was 9.5%.

But that, of course, is a conscious and very purposeful obfuscation of the facts that politicos - both Democrats and Republicans - have used to cloud the issue of unemployment in the United States. The report used by the BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics) showing a 9.5% rate of unemployment is generated from a report known as "U3."

However, Barry Ritholtz, the CEO and Director for Equity Research for Fusion IQ, says that using the "U3" to report on the nation's unemployment rate is a very deceptive contrivance; he writes:

"It's been pretty obvious for sometime that the Financial Media are doing a disservice to their readers by only reporting U3, GIVEN HOW DRAMATICALLY IT UNDERSTATES UNEMPLOYMENT. Indeed, consumer sentiment reports are at deep negative levels that only occur when unemployment is much more than what U3 has been saying. It is painfully obvious that U3 does not paint an accurate view of the employment situation."

Consider carefully what 30% means: that is an astounding number of people who are unemployed or are part-time workers. This chart helps to make that number a little more understandable - and if this reality is not yours where you live, than it is even worse in other areas. It's a "zero-sum" game: if you win, others lose.

Using the more accurate "U6 Report" from the BLS, the U.S. has an unemployment rate today of 16.5% rather than 9.5%.

In addition, if one includes workers the government doesn't even count - such as unemployed farm workers (not counting illegal immigrants), the self-employed who are unable to find work, and workers in private homes - the unemployment rate approaches an astonishing 23.4%.

In other words, unemployment has insidiously spread to almost one-fourth of the U.S. work force, and could very well reach 30% - a number much larger than the single-digit figure of 9.5% commonly bandied about in the press. What makes this particularly disturbing is that this rate of unemployment may be something that is PERMANENT. [Please see our article, "A permanent 30% Unemployment Rate."]

A key to the elite's ability to control the economy and thus guarantee themselves their exorbitant wealth is UNION BUSTING; and in this endeavor, the business elites have always had the support of the church. Moreover, there can be no doubt that over the years the effort by big business to bust unions - coupled with the allied effort by the church to anathematize them - has had an enormous impact on America's unions.

Union busting!

The following chart indicates the results of this effort:

Declining level of those American workers who are union members

What this chart (see above) plainly indicates is that union membership has virtually collapsed from a high of almost 28 percent of American workers in 1977 to less than 13 percent today.

And the result to American workers? - average weekly earnings adjusted for inflation - as indicated by the BLUE line (see chart below) - have been reduced by a factor of three.

The red line shows the rate of inflation calculated by the old CPI (Consumer Price Index) which was designed by the government to obfuscate what was really happening with worker's wages in the economy; the blue line shows the REAL rate of inflation as shown by the new SGS Standard CPI. The new CPI index is based solely on publicly available data, not on massaged surveying by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, or over-modeled and over-theorized price levels. As with the rate of unemployment used by the government (known as the U3 Report which shows an unemployment rate of "only" 9.5 percent when the REAL level of unemployment hovers around 20 percent), the old CPI rate grossly under-states the fall of REAL wages in the country over the past several decades. FAMILIES HAVE BEEN ABLE TO KEEP UP ONLY BY TRANSITIONING FROM A ONE-PAYCHECK FAMILY TO A TWO AND SOMETIMES THREE-PAYCHECK FAMILY; but this option is fast disappearing in today's world of high unemployment.

"Employees are to submit to employers in the same way that slaves submit to their masters."

Typical of the anti-union bias used by the church to anathematize unions (and gain the favor of the elites) is this teaching from Prof. David J. Engelsma, Professor of Dogmatics at the Protestant Reformed Seminary:

"There are many reasons why labor union membership is sinful ... but the central issue is this: in the realm of labor, the owner, or management, has the right to rule, so that the Christian worker must submit ... Some attempt to evade the will of God for the laborer, and thus evacuate Scripture of its instruction regarding the sphere of labor, by arguing that the New Testament passages refer to the out-dated system of slave-master and slave. The argument fails.

  • First, Scripture sometimes refers to hired laborers, to workingmen who are not owned by the master, but rather work for a wage. This is the case in I Peter 2:18ff., which speaks of "servants," not "slaves." This is also the case in James 5, which speaks of the "hire of the laborers" (v. 4).

  • Second, although it is true that slavery was the prevalent form labor took at that time, the principles laid down by Scripture apply, not to that one specific form, but to ALL forms of labor in all ages.

  • Third, the fact that the laborer was a slave does not detract from the calling of the free worker today, to submit, but emphasizes this calling even more strongly. IF SLAVES HAD TO SUBMIT FOR GOD'S SAKE, HOW MUCH MORE WORKINGMEN TODAY, whose circumstances are in any case far better than those of slaves."

Two posters - "God is Just" and "God is Good" hang over a 19th Century workhouse for the poor in England.

According to Engelsma, the relationship between employer and employee is the same as the relationship between a stern father and a rebellious son.

Plainly, what Engelsma is arguing here is that today's workingman (or woman) must submit to his employer much in the same fashion that a slave would to his master. He then goes on to assert:

"The labor unions, and thus all their members, are guilty of rebellion against lawful authority, just as is the case with a rebellious child ... Labor unionism is transgression against the fifth commandment of the law of God, 'Honor thy father and thy mother':

'That I show all honor, love, and fidelity to my father and mother and all in authority over me, and submit myself to their good instruction and correction with due obedience; and also patiently bear with their weaknesses and infirmities, since it pleases God to govern us by their hand.'

"The enforcement of the will of the laborers against the will of the employer, which is of the very essence of the union, is rebellion ..."

NOTE: The attempt here to link union activity to rebellion against God by employing such verses as Ephesians 6:5-8, Colossians 3:22-25, 1 Timothy 6:1ff, Titus 2:9ff, Philemon, 1 Peter 2:1ff and James 5:1-11 is completely and totally fallacious. It is akin to saying that it is lawful to have four wives because Moses permitted it; but Jesus said:

"Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you... [to do so]: but from the beginning it was not so." (Matthew 19:8)

If we are to go back to the principle of "First Things" there was no such thing as a servant/master relationship insofar as Israel's economic system was concerned - i.e., the one that God set up in the Book of Leviticus.

The repugnant and even vulgar thought - central to the system of capitalism - that the world should be divided into a management class of "haves" (i.e., the rich) and a laboring class of "have nots" (i.e., the poor) simply does not exist in the Bible.

Management by the elites: "God sees you!"

The very real fact of the matter is, the severe and cold "Calvinistic" economic system of Ricardo, Smith and Malthus - based as it is on the Darwinian maxim of "survival of the fittest" in which the most productive are supposed to rise to the top of the economic pecking order and the least productive are supposed to fall to the bottom - is utterly repudiated by the Scripture. [Please see our article, "Capitalism and Christianity."]

How you say? - through the device of the "Jubilee," a God-ordained mechanism aimed at preventing the untoward accumulation of wealth - central to the system of capitalism - in Old Testament Israeli society. You never heard of this? - well, I'm not surprised! It's not something that the elites of this world or their "toadies" in the Religious Right would find it convenient to talk about too much.

In the Old Testament (in the Book of Leviticus) the land of Israel was to be divided EQUALLY in perpetual allotments to its citizenry. Each family was to receive a roughly equal share of the land. Now the Bible envisioned that in the course of time, some would not do as well as others and, as a result, would have to sell their land and their houses.

Workers as human chattel.

"Someone who lacks independent wealth has no claim to even the SMALLEST portion of food ..."

- David Ricardo

Looking DOWN on workers as human chattel.

But every fifty years, the Bible established a "Year of Jubilee" in which everything had to be restored to its original owner:

"And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee [i.e., a time of rejoicing"] unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession ... [in other words, everyman in Israel would have his former possessions returned to him].

"A jubilee shall that fiftieth year be unto you: ye shall not sow, neither reap that which groweth of itself in it, nor gather the grapes in it of thy vine undressed.

"In the year of this jubilee ye shall return every man unto his possession.

Hardly a system of things that would be approved today by Bank of America and Wells Fargo, and by the "Captains of Industry." How long do you suppose modern capitalism would survive under this kind of system? Not very long I should imagine.

"In the year of this jubilee ye shall return every man unto his possession. In the year of the Jubilee [every fifty years] the field shall return unto him of whom it was bought, even to him to whom the possession of the land did belong [originally]. (Lev. 25:10-11, 13, 24)

Unequally yoked.

Another Christian writer, Rev. John Hays, begins his argument against unions by stating the obvious:

"As we search His Word we find nothing that forbids us to organize into a labor union."

But then he goes on to say:

"However, there is one qualification which Scripture does make in regard to any such organizations: We may not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. (II Corinthians 6:14-18). We are one with unbelievers as members of a particular nation."

What? - He continues:

"We are born that way [i.e., linked with unbelievers] and cannot escape membership in a nation. This is the work of God's providence; and it is unavoidable, for God will have man governed by those whom He invests with authority. But membership in a labor union is voluntary ... Unequally yoked with the unbeliever, he will have to do things the unbeliever's way.

"Indeed, a man may have to join himself to an ungodly man for his daily bread. His employer may be an unbeliever; and he may not be able to find any work except to work for the unbeliever as his employee, or he may have to ply his trade in the service of the unbeliever. This is not yoking oneself to that unbeliever. Joining a union of unbelievers, swearing loyalty to its constitution, voluntarily sitting down with them to make policy is agreeing to a program that will advocate going contrary to God's Word."

However, this kind of reasoning is so fallacious that it hardly bears refutation; to say that belonging to a nation and/or working for an "unbelieving employer" is not "voluntary," while joining a labor union is, is simply idiotic; after all, one can always emigrate, or become a "freeholder" - that is to say, he could start his own business, or invest in self-sustaining agriculture.

"And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay [expensive] clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool, are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

Plainly, what all this indicates is that the leaders of the church have been seduced to take the side of the rich over and against the poor.

But the truth is, if the Bible indicates that God takes sides in this dispute, it would be that He takes the side of the poor.

Moreover, the Bible clearly indicates that one should be on guard insofar as the intentions of the rich in the church are concerned:

"If there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;

"And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing [i.e., expensive clothing], and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:

"Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

"Hearken, my beloved brethren, HATH NOT GOD CHOSEN THE POOR OF THIS WORLD rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

And then the Bible goes on to state the obvious - at least insofar as God is concerned:

"Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

"Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?" (James 2:6-7)

The answer, of course, is, "Yes!" Plainly, the rich oppress the poor.

The rich: the bosses of Congress - influencing
legislation and oppressing the people for their own gain.

Of course, most Christians today - at least those in America - believe otherwise; but in doing so, they are clearly at odds with the Scripture. Not only are Christians NOT to take the side of the rich, they are called to repudiate their own wealth if they want to follow Him. Jesus said:

"... If thou wilt be perfect, GO SELL [ALL] THAT THOU HAST, AND GIVE IT TO THE POOR, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me." (Matt. 19:21)

Plainly, then, if there exists a bias on the part of God, that bias does not favor the rich (i.e., the employers) over the poor (i.e., the employees). [Please see our article, "The Deceitfulness of Riches & the Marxist Paradigm."]

The deceptive "posturing" of the rich.

But even if we were to discount that bias - i.e., God's very obvious bias toward the poor of this world - and say that the church should remain neutral in matters pertaining to employer / employee relationships, that is plainly NOT what has happened. THE ALLIANCE BETWEEN BIG BUSINESS AND THE CHURCH IS PLAIN ENOUGH FOR ANYONE TO SEE WHO REALLY WANTS TO SEE. [Please see our article, "The Business Right and the Religious Right: An Alliance Made in Hell."]

One has only to consider the presence of so-called "born-again" Christians in the deceptively named "Right-to-Work" Movement that allows employers to target union members for "special treatment." The movement is funded by the National Association of Manufacturers, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Business and Industrial Council - all extremely right-wing, virulently anti-union organizations that possess an arsenal of strategies and tactics designed to intimidate and fire pro-union employees.

Union busting is a term used by trade unions and others to describe a wide range of activities undertaken by employers, their proxies, and governments, which hinder workers from freely organizing, joining and maintaining trade union. While the right to join and form trade unions is recognized in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), union busting actions subvert the organization and continuation of unions by sowing discord amongst union members, challenging unions via law courts, strike breaking.

Take, for example, the involvement of MORTON C. BLACKWELL, REED E. LARSON and MARK A. MIX in the attempt to bust unions. All of them are prominent "born-again" Christians and members of the CNP (Council on National Policy) - an organization formed by members of the Religious Right, right-wing politicos and powerful members of the American business community.

NOTE: The CNP was founded by Tim LaHaye, a prominent leader in the Religious Right, to promote the alliance between big business and the Religious Right. Among its founding members are Pat Robertson, T. Cullen Davis, Nelson Bunker Hunt - a known financial backer of the John Birch Society, and Joseph Coors who was instrumental in helping LaHaye form the CNP. Newsweek Magazine reports that the CNP's first executive director, Louisiana State Representative Woody Jenkins, told members,

"I predict that one day the Council (meaning the CNP) will be so influential that no President, regardless of party or philosophy, will be able to ignore us or our concerns, or shut us out of the highest levels of government." [Please see our article, "The Ideological Origins of the CNP."]

MORTON C. BLACKWELL is an educator and President of the Arlington, Va. based Leadership Institute. Known as the dean of youth politics, Mr. Blackwell has trained many of the people who have been responsible for right-wing and anti-labor victories over the past 20 years. Mr. Blackwell's training in how to win political battles is so effective that activists are sent into the field only after successfully completing his program. Throughout the country his graduates have helped elect local and national candidates that fight for voluntary unionism. Some run for elective office themselves. Mr. Blackwell's alumni include numerous state representatives, two U.S. Congressmen, a U.S. Senator and a Governor. Mr. Blackwell is a member of the National Right to Work Committee's Executive Committee.

REED E. LARSON is Treasurer of the National Right to Work Committee, having served as President for 35 years, and an acknowledged national leader in the "Right to Work" cause. Born near Kensington, Kansas, he attended Kansas Wesleyan University, Ohio State University, and Kansas State University, where he received an electrical engineering degree after military service in World War II. He thereafter served as president of the Kansas Jaycees. With Kansans for the "Right to Work," he directed the successful campaign for the state's "Right to Work" amendment, following which in 1958 he joined the staff of the fledgling National "Right to Work" Committee. In 1968, he was the impetus behind the establishment of the National "Right to Work" Legal Defense Foundation for which he served as president until 2004. Mr. Larson has been the recipient of numerous business, religious, and civic awards. Mr. Larson is a non-voting member of the National "Right to Work" Committee's Executive Committee.

MARK A. MIX is President of the National "Right to Work" Committee and the National "Right to Work" Legal Defense Foundation, Inc. A native of Alfred, New York, he graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where he majored in Finance. After graduation, Mr. Mix worked for several state "Right to Work" groups as an independent lobbyist and also served as a field man for the successful congressional campaign of U.S. Congressman Herbert Bateman (R-VA). In 1990, he began working for the National "Right to Work" Committee, rising to the position of Executive Vice President before being named President of both the Committee and Foundation in 2003. He is married and has five children. Mr. Mix is the principal salaried executive officer of the National "Right to Work" Committee

It is impossible to over-state the extent to which this HATEFUL and NOXIOUS alliance between the rich and the church that was created to anathematize and destroy the unions has infiltrated the American political scene. Take just one seemingly harmless example: The NATIONAL PRAYER BREAKFAST which is sponsored annually by the so-called FELLOWSHIP FOUNDATION.

Billy Graham addressing the National Prayer Breakfast sponsored by the Fellowship Foundation: Praying for the success of the American New World Order System.

Laura Lakes Jordan of the Arizona Sun reports that the annual event - which is held on the first Thursday in February of every year - costs almost $1 million to put on. Lisa Getter of the Los Angeles Times writes:

"The embossed invitation [to the prayer breakfast] comes from members of the Congress of the United States of America. It asks guests to join the president, vice president and other national leaders in the executive, judicial and legislative branches of our government for a morning of prayer. Presidential seals decorate nearly everything at the event, from the podium, to the registration desk, to the official program. It's not surprising that many think it's an official government event."

Now stop for a moment and think about this; that's big, that's really big: a "prayer breakfast" that has the "political clout" to compel the attendance of the most powerful politicos of the country (including EVERY president and vice president since the Eisenhower administration), many of whom don't have a "religious bone" in their bodies. That's "CLOUT."

Still, it all sounds innocent enough - until, that is, one takes the time to investigate what the FELLOWHIP FOUNDATION is all about: It is to a very large extent a very potent anti-union organization dedicated to the destruction of America's trade unions. [We urge you to see our article, "The Cedars: the House on 24th Street."]

Jeff Sharlet and his book on "The Family" - i.e., the so-called FELLOWSHIP FOUNDATION

The genesis of the Fellowship Foundation can be traced back to Seattle and the "Red Scare" (and resultant "Palmer Raids") of 1919-1921; specifically, to the fear that American businessmen had at the time for what was going on in the Soviet Union: that somehow or other the United States was in grave danger of being engulfed by a socialist revolution directed by the Soviet Union and "mainlined" into the country through sympathetic American trade unions.

This fantasy was strengthened early on by the fact that the IWW (International Workers of the World) began advocating "One Big Union" in the United States - the idea that the entire labor movement should form a "grand alliance," regardless of the nature of a particular union's work, in order to confront American capital with the demand for a socialist commonwealth.

The Palmer Raids were attempts by the United States Department of Justice to arrest and deport left-wing radicals, especially anarchists, from the United States. These are the raids that "netted" the famous labor activist Emma Goldman and shipped her off to the Soviet Union in 1919.

Emma Goldman

What made Seattle such a "hotbed" of labor unrest is the fact that it was one of the few American cities to actually back a "General Strike" in support of labor in the early Twentieth Century, a tactic whereby all workers walked off their jobs at the same time in a particular city, bringing it to a standstill. It was a powerful weapon in labor's arsenal against the rich because if the rich couldn't quickly contain it, it could ruin them due to the fact that their businesses depended on a regular and dependable flow of economic activity to sustain them. Indeed, it was through the use of a "General Strike" that Trotsky brought the "Reds" to power in the old Soviet Union.

HISTORIAN MURRAY LEVIN WRITES THAT IT DIDN'T TAKE THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY LONG TO COME UP WITH THE IDEA OF ENLISTING MEMBERS OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY AS "FOOT SOLDIERS" AND "GRUNTS" IN THEIR WAR AGAINST TRADE UNIONISM - an effort which involved two strategies: (1) waving the "bloody shirt" of "atheistic socialism," and (2) contributing large sums of money to their churches and ministries.

Big business would bludgeon organized labor into a bloody pulp using the "poor carpenter of Nazareth" as its cudgel. EMPLOYER GROUPS EVERYWHERE WERE URGED TO USE THE POWER OF THE PULPIT AGAINST ORGANIZED LABOR. Indeed, one particularly powerful business spokesman asserted confidently,

"We have ... the pulpit ... through which to sell our message. We'll beat them (i.e., the labor activists and unions) to death with the cross of Christ."

NOTE: In addition to its ruthless anti-union activity, the LA Times reports that the Fellowship Foundation has also -

"... brought controversial figures to Washington, where they have met with U.S. officials either at the prayer breakfast or other venues. Among them are former Salvadoran Gen. Carlos Eugenio Vides Casanova, who in July (2002) was found liable by a civil jury in Florida for the torture of thousands of civilians in the 1980s. He was invited to the 1984 prayer breakfast, along with Gen. Gustavo Alvarez Martinez, then the head of the Honduran armed forces. Alvarez, later linked to the CIA and a secret death squad, became an evangelical missionary ..." [Please see our article, "The Death Squads: Bringing in the Kingdom of God through Terror, Torture, and Death."]

And that's just the tip of the iceberg; the very real fact of the matter is, this so-called 'Christian' organization has a very wicked and immoral propensity for working with the very worst people; for example - in addition to Casanova and Martinez mentioned above - take the brutal Brazilian dictator General Costa e Silva, who regularly oversaw a Foundation fellowship and prayer group in Brazil while running death squads throughout the country on behalf of various American multinational corporations, and also General Suharto of Indonesia whose tally of several million "communists" (so-called) killed in that poor benighted country marks him as one of the most murderous dictators of the post World War II era. These connections, and many others besides, make obvious the link the Fellowship Foundation has with some of the darker, more depraved machinations and maneuverings of the American New World Order System throughout the world." Demonizing the unions

Commenting on the kind of anti-union people that are a part of the alliance that the church has made with the richy-riches of the country, one union organizer writes:

"These are the people that broke our backs, you know that little phrase you find on job applications now, where it says 'we are a right to work company, and fire and hire at will', meaning they have the right to fire you without notice? These are the people who promoted the DEMONIZATION OF UNIONS, as the reason they were moving to Mexico, or 'going broke', etc. that made the younger generation really believe that pap. Thanks to these people most of available employment now is in the form of part-time, no benefit, non-living wage jobs ... Welcome to THEIR world ..... IS IT BETTER?"

Today, as the country falls deeper and deeper into the economic crisis, and as unemployment reaches Depression-era levels, Christians have only themselves to blame if and when unemployment and\or under-employment comes knocking at their door. By allowing themselves and the churches to which they belong to be drawn into the elite's perverse effort to destroy the American trade union movement, they ipso facto destroyed the only institutions that were capable of stopping the elite's effort to "off-shore" their jobs and downwage their paychecks. [Please see our article, "The Rich Have Seized Control of the Church."]

What did Christians think would happen when they approved - or at the very least stood aside and allowed - the effort by their leaders to ally their church with the richy-riches of the world? NOTHING GOOD CAN EVER COME FROM THE RICH! It's not without reason that the Bible says,

"They that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

"For the love of money is the root of ALL evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." (1 Timothy 6:9-10)

OR, as Honore de Balzac put it:

"Behind every great fortune there lies a great crime."

In allying themselves with the rich of this world, Christians have allied themselves with CRIMINALS - criminals in business suits to be sure, but criminals nonetheless.

LEFT: Caught in the
coils of poverty

RIGHT; Transfixed
by poverty's stare

Now, as the coils of poverty wrap themselves ever tighter around their bodies, they find themselves unable to move, so transfixed are they by their circumstances. Unemployment and/or under-employment (and the resulting poverty or near-poverty) has paralyzed them - and, as a result, THERE IS HELL TO PAY!

There are, naturally enough, those who blame God for the circumstances in which they find themselves. Where is God in all this? But the Bible says that in such circumstances we are NOT to blame God:

"Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, NEITHER TEMPTETH HE ANY MAN:

"But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

"Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death." (James 1:13-15)

The fact of the matter is, the leaders of the church were flattered by the attention the rich gave them; they were thrilled to be in their presence; electrified by the consideration they received from these "great men;" and not only the leaders of the church, but also average parishioners when the shadow of these "men of wealth" fell upon them at the close of Sunday services. They willingly cast aside the warning of the Scripture concerning the real character of the rich:

"Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

"Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.

"Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

"Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.

"Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

"Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you." (James 5:1-6)

And now they are surprised by what has happened to them? - they shouldn't be; the Scripture (see above) is plain enough.

Again, American Christians - taken as a whole - have only themselves to blame for what's happening to them economically. AND IF THEY ARE TO ESCAPE THESE CIRCUMSTANCES, THEY MUST ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THEM. ONLY THEN WILL THEY SEE CLEARLY ENOUGH TO DO SOMETHING MEANINGFUL.

Unfortunately, most refuse to take responsibility for themselves in this matter; to take MEANINGFUL action to free themselves from their present predicament.

SADLY, I know many, dear, dear Christians, some of whom were at one time or another associated with Antipas, who are now in dire financial circumstances and who are transfixed by their situation - and their condition is only growing worse.

Laboring for the MAN.

Indeed, there is one dear Christian brother whom I dearly love whom I warned more than ten years ago to take action to free himself of the situation in which he found himself. In his case, it wasn't that he had "had the wool pulled over his eyes" with regard to the rich (he was very actively involved in the trade union movement), but it was the fact that he seemed to be viewing the situation that was beginning to encompass him much as one would watch a movie. He seemed to view himself as a member of an audience rather than an active participant "in the play."

As a result, he refused to take any MEANINGFUL action to free himself; and not only that, he went out and bought a home that cemented him that much more into his deteriorating financial situation.

Now he finds himself in a far, far worse state of affairs than he was ever in previously - and in circumstances that force him to labor for THE MAN more than 900 miles away from the home where his dear wife and family live. [Please see our article, "Making Men Cogs in a Machine."]

And there are many, many others - they all know who they are - scattered all across the country. And with the passing of time their situation only grows worse; indeed - and I say this with tears in my eyes - many have forsaken the Lord for all practical purposes. These are the kind of people about whom Jesus warned His disciples:

J'Accuse - I accuse! By Emile Zola

"The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

"The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

"When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.

"Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.

"Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: AND THE LAST STATE OF THE MAN IS WORSE THAN THE FIRST. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation." (Matthew 12:41-45)

And the Bible goes on to warn us:

"For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

"And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

"If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame." (Hebrews 6:4-6)

All this to say that when one fails to obey Christ, he falls into a very dangerous situation - one that approximates the plight of that servant about whom Jesus said:

"Take ye away therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him that hath the ten talents.

"For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away.

"And cast ye out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 25:28-30)

Hog-tied by one's circumstances.

Listen to me, dear Christian: These are not the kind of verses with which one should want to trifle. Time is growing short, and poverty - like some great fiend - is attempting to hog-tie you with your circumstances. You think it is hard to do something now - it will only get harder with the passage of time.

Someday ANOTHER will come and offer you a way out of your poverty - the very poverty that you have brought upon yourself by standing aside and allowing the leaders of the church to ally themselves with the rich of the world. Jesus said:

"I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if ANOTHER shall come in his own name, him ye will receive." (John 5:43)

Most of you know very well that I am not exaggerating when I say that for many, many years I have preached this message; I have traveled around the country and visited countless numbers of you - trying all the while to persuade you to do something before it's too late. I even took ALL my money and went to Canada in order to establish a place to which you could come; but no one came - even those who had promised to come failed to do so.

And not only that, after I was forced to ignobly retreat from there, I have continued to urge you that at the very least you should move together so that you could mutually establish each other in the faith as the Bible commands:

"Let us consider one another to provoke unto love and good works;

"not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another ; and so much the more, as ye see the day drawing nigh." (Hebrews 10:24-25) [And I do not mean meeting in the assemblies of today's apostate church - as several of you are doing in Denver (and I am thinking of one particular person there) - but finding others of like-mind with whom to meet.]

I feel very much like how Christ must have felt when He said:

"We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.

"For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.

"The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children." (Matthew 11:17-19) [Please see our article, "Our Failure in Canada".]

Still, I hope and pray that there are some of you who will dare to take ACTION before it's too late. [Please see our article, "Looking Forward by Looking Backward."]

We URGE you to read (or re-read):

God bless you all!
